Spin+X supports get-together of female physicists

Meeting of female physicists

On December 13, 2022, the female physicists meeting of the TUK took place again. This SPIN+X-sponsored event is organized once a semester and serves as an informal exchange among female physicists. The participants included female students from different semesters as well as professors and employees of the NSC (Nano Structuring Center) and other scientific assistants. Over warm drinks and cookies, personal experiences about the still male-dominated field could be exchanged in a relaxed atmosphere. This meeting is especially characterized by the participation of female physicists from different status groups. Discussions on topics such as the compatibility of family and career in science or dealing with gender stereotypes in professional life were also encouraged. For example, the following questions were discussed: How can a doctorate be continued if one becomes pregnant during the study? Have you ever been in a situation where male students were favored over female students? How do women experience examination situations with exclusively male examiners and assessors and can this be avoided? Thus, this event not only serves the networking of female physicists, but also promotes the dialogue on equal rights for women and men in physics.
