Two new lecture Series within Spin+X

With the start of its second funding period, the Spin+X consortium starts two new lecture series. Offering a broad spectrum of lectures to reflect the wide application fields of spin, the two series should further strengthen the Spin+X culture between Kaiserslautern and Mainz.

Spin+X Distinguished Lecture Series
On June 15, the new Distinguished Lecture Series of Spin+X will make its debut. Hosting outstanding experts in the field of spin research, the purpose of the event is to provide the community with different perspectives and to promote the exchange of thoughts and ideas between experts, staff, and students. The speakers will present their current research in a general manner, making it understandable to the whole Spin+X team consisting of physicists, chemists, and mechanical engineers. The series takes place once per month during the term on Mondays 4 p.m. Potential speakers can be suggested by every PI of Spin+X. The Steering Committee then elects who of the suggested experts will be invited. In the Summer Term 2020, the Distinguished Lecture Series is given online due to the current Corona situation. As first speakers we are happy to welcome Prof. Dr.-Ing. Oliver Gutfleisch from Technische Universität Darmstadt, (June 15), Prof. Dr. Uwe Bovensiepen from Universität Duisburg-Essen (June 29) and Prof. Dr. Martin Weinelt from Freie Universität Berlin (July 13). Joint SPICE-Spin+X Seminars
Starting on May 20, a new online seminar on spintronics and related research areas is introduced in cooperation with the Spin Phenomena Interdisciplinary Center (SPICE). The series takes place on a weekly basis Wednesdays at 3 p.m. The talks are given by international speakers with expertise on spintronics and related areas of research. The first talk on “Antiferromagnetic spintronics: from memories to ultra-fast optics and topological transport” is given by Tomas Jungwirth from the Institute of Physics of the Science Academy of the Czech Republic in Prague.
