More than 1000 pupils visited the Technical University of Kaiserslautern (TUK) on the occasion of the “Tag der Physik” on December 2nd 2017. Most of the pupils participated in physics competitions. Beside these competitions, scientists offered insight into their research and gave information about studying physics at the TUK. SPIN+X participated with an own stand showing the following demonstrators:

• a smartboard with an animation of spin waves

• a hard disk drive with transparent cover, that allows to see the read head with a GMR-Sensor

• a small hands-on experiment about the transformation of the magnetization in steel when it is stressed including a model train to show a possible application of this research

Young researchers of SPIN+X answered the questions of pupils and teachers and provided a lively glimpse into the fascinating world of spin research and spin applications.
