SPIN+Xoffered two workshops for female students at the "Schoolgirl Day" of TUK on September 27, 2018.

On September 27, 2018 the University of Kaiserslautern (TUK) invited schoolgirls to the annual "Schülerinnentag". Girls from high school have the opportunity to participate in various workshops and lectures from different disciplines at TUK on this day, with the purpose to awaken or deepen their interest and enthusiasm for the natural and engineering sciences. SPIN+X contributed to the program with two workshops. During an experimental workshop organized by SPIN+X PI Philipp Pirro, the students got practical experience on spin and magnetism by building a miniature electric motor. Under the direction of the SPIN+X outreach project (in cooperation with SFB / TRR 185 OSCAR), a "Science Speed Dating" took place. 8 to 15 students sat opposite to the same number of professional physicists (both alumni of the TUK working in the industry and current academic staff). As in speed dating, each couple communicated for about 5 minutes, before switching to the next partner. The workshop provided the students with a broad insight into the possible occupational fields for physicists in industry and academia. Given the opportunity to ask their own questions in a relaxed one-to-one conversation, the girls were able get an idea of the everyday working life of a physicist.
