Peercoaching for professors
The tasks and roles of professors are diverse. In addition to excellent research and good teaching, they are involved in university committees, manage staff, supervise students and doctoral candidates in their qualification work and represent their subject or the university at specialist conferences, etc. In addition, female professors in particular generally have a demanding private life, as female academics tend to start their own families later in life. Therefore, there are also many tasks in this area at the same time, which are very challenging for female professors in addition to the demands of their professional role.
The diverse tasks and demands can often lead to questions - on the one hand in the professional field alone, but also with your private life: How can I be a good manager? How can I communicate well in difficult situations? How can I reconcile my professional and private wishes? And how can I manage all of this without constantly being “on the limit” or resigning myself to the variety of tasks, but above all staying healthy and strong? These individual challenges are often also a collective phenomenon, so it makes sense to discuss these questions in a protected exchange with colleagues, to relieve each other and to learn from each other.
From January 2025, the ZGaPL is offering a peer coaching format for female professors in collaboration with the Landau Family Service. In this exchange format, innovative solutions for questions and problems of the participants will be worked on in a collegial and confidential manner based on the cases brought in and under the guidance and moderation of an external expert in the group.
Content and goals
- Working on “cases”: participants bring in their topics and specific questions and develop innovative solutions together
- Through the exchange with professorial colleagues and the input of the moderator, new perspectives are developed and discovered
- The participants are relieved by the experience that female colleagues often have similar problems and
- they get to know different methods of case work
- Ultimately, the participants networked across departmental boundaries.
Methods
Methods of collegial case work; the focus is on the cases brought in by the participants; these are supplemented with creative thinking and writing methods.
