Career Planning Inside and Outside of Academia

This workshop is offered in cooperation with the High Performance Center Simulation and Software Based Innovation

 

Training Goals

  • Creating your profile of skills and qualifications, highlighting your strengths and accomplishments.
  • Choosing your own criteria and values for work and life.
  • Developing a vision for your own professional and private life.
  • Review and evaluation of personal development goals.

 

When and Where?

Session 1: 20.01.2025, from 09:00 to 12:00 h
Session 2: 20.01.2025, from 14:00 to 17:30 h

The online seminar will take place via Zoom. 
The arrangement of breaks will be agreed with the participants in the course

 

Target group

PhD students, especially in the last third of their doctorate.


Workshop content

  • You reflect upon your professional career path and develop a well-orchestrated plan.
  • You work out a biographically-based profile that highlights und evaluates your individual qualifications, skills and job vision.
  • You explore different occupational career alternatives.
  • You get information about formal and hidden requirements for a career development (with special focus on German working culture).
  • You share experiences and are encouraged by other scientists who are in a similar professional situation.

 

Language

Live sessions will be held in English. 

 

Technical requirements and e-collaboration tool

  • PC or laptop with Internet connection.
  • PC or laptop with microphone and loudspeaker or headset if necessary.
  • A quiet workplace.

 

Trainer

Matthias Merkelbach, impulspuls

Matthias Merkelbach is an expert in career strategy and team communication. A graduate in philosophy and German studies, he has many years of professional experience as a journalist, author of specialist books and lecturer. Until 2011, he was the pedagogical director of ISD GmbH, Stuttgart, where he was responsible for the further education program for internationally active companies, giving him a total of eight years of experience in a management position with personnel responsibility, including the recruitment of new employees.

Participation is limited. Please register bindingly via online registration by 16.12.2024. You will only be informed about your admission to the course after the registration deadline. The course is open to employees and PhD students of the Fraunhofer Institutes IESE and ITWM as well as to all young scientists at RPTU. Please note the information on the conditions of participation and registration.
