Individual coaching and career counseling

To help you deal with challenges in your day-to-day research work and career, the ZGaPL offers professional support to all researchers at RPTU. We see coaching and career counseling as a way to guide you through the process and help you help yourself. Typical issues come up in work situations, but also when these interact with your personal life.

Possible topics

  • Leadership and self-management
  • Career planning
  • Work-life balance
  • Major changes or stressful situations
  • Decision-making and goal achievement
  • Stress management and resilience
  • Conflict resolution and prevention

Possible goals

Important: you define your own goals for your coaching
  • Developing potential and resources
  • Reflecting on roles, needs, leadership behavior, and communication styles
  • Learning new strategies, methods, and skills that make everyday (working) life easier and lead to greater satisfaction and success in the long term
  • Identifying goals, individual skills, and strengths
  • Strengthening self-organization skills and unlocking potential for action
  • Clarity about one's own career paths (e.g., after completing a doctorate)

Extent and procedure

  • For each research staff level* at the RPTU, we offer quick and easy 3 x 60-minute coaching sessions. When moving from one level to the next (e.g., after completing a doctorate), the hours are not carried over or added up. Only 3 hours are available at any given time. The hours can be combined (e.g., two 90-minute sessions) or divided up (e.g., six 30-minute sessions) in consultation with the coaches. Unused hours remain available within the qualification phase for later dates and other topics.
  • Three hours are sufficient for most issues. However, if more hours or the processing of an additional topic are necessary, we will try to make this possible. In this case, please fill out the “Coaching Motivation” form and send it to: zgapl-coaching@rptu.de. The mailbox is managed by Dr. Caroline Marker, Lena Getto, and Megan Benoit-Gärtner.

* Level 1: Doctoral candidates, Level 2: Postdocs on fixed-term contracts, Level 3: Permanent research assistants, junior professors, tenure-track professors, junior research group leaders, and W2 professors, Level 4: W3 professors
