Funding opportunities for early career researchers in Germany - an overview
When and where?
19.08.2026, 10 am - 11:30 am
The event takes place online via zoom
What is it all about?
In Germany and the EU, there are numerous funding programs for researchers—while some of these programs are geared more toward experienced scientists, there are also several that are particularly relevant for early-career researchers seeking an academic career after completing their doctorate.
This event provides specific information about the various funding opportunities available to early-career researchers at different stages of their postdoctoral careers.
The focus is on programs that can be used to fund one’s own position, but which serve not only to provide funding but also to advance one’s academic qualifications.
The presentation will cover opportunities for applying to junior research groups (Emmy Noether Program, BMBF Junior Research Groups, ERC Starting Grants, etc.) as well as programs for experienced postdocs on the path to a professorship (Heisenberg Program, ERC Starting/Consolidator Grants) and the support services available within the RPTU.
In addition, information will be provided on EU funding opportunities, particularly those under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Program, which includes mobility measures in HORIZON Europe and supports postdoc projects. Its goal is to support researchers in Europe in their individual career development toward becoming innovative researchers. Mobility plays a central role in this: it promotes international, interdisciplinary, and intersectoral research, thereby expanding individual research competencies.
Please note: Funding opportunities for financing your own dissertation will not be discussed.
