REaCh

RPTU Center for Early Career Researchers

Was bleibt?

Target group

International and German doctoral researchers and postdocs who are looking for a new employment in the next 12 months and have little application knowledge.

What's it about?

Leaving academia and looking for a job in the industry is an important and sometimes difficult step. This fundamental career training enables you to search for job offers efficiently and prepare convincing application documents. It consists of live webinars and self-learning videos.

Workshop content

  • Ideas for possible positions
  • Active and passive job search strategies
  • Content and design of an application
  • Analysis of job ads and estimation of chances
  • Individual application feedback in small groups

Subject “Job Search“

In the first seminar session, we discuss which competencies are often acquiered during a doctorate and their relevance for companies. You find out more about job profiles in the industry which might be interesting for you and how you can find other possible jobs. In a following self-study course, you get to know various options of active and passive job search strategies, incl. job databases and activities to come into contact with employers. Furthermore, you understand how to plan and organize your individual search for future employments.

Subject “Application Documents“

In a self-learning webinar you will get the necessary basic knowledge on how to write your cover letter and CV, and how best to adapt your application to the job offer. You see examples for a professional application design, photos and get advice for your certificate selection. We reflect modern and traditional application aspects and deepen the understanding of your target persons. Moreover, you receive important hints how to make your profile particularly interesting for employers. In an additional live workshop, you learn the meaning of typical phrases in job advertisements and how much your chances of success are influenced by requirements you cannot fulfil. Afterwards you can prepare your own application and receive feedback for your CV in a subsequent meeting.
