To study at a university, you need an appropriate qualification:

  • a university entrance qualification (HZB, e.g. Abitur).

For certain study programs you have to fulfill additional entrance requirements, such as special language skills, aptitude tests, etc.

For the distance learning programs of the DISC and the International Master & PhD programs at the ISGS, such special admission requirements also apply.

All applicants and students must prove to the university that they are insured in a statutory health insurance or that they are exempt from compulsory insurance or that they are not subject to compulsory insurance. The legal basis for this is § 199 a of the 5th Social Security Code (SGB V).

Proof must be provided of statutory health insurance using the digital student notification procedure (SMV). Notifications in paper form can no longer be accepted!

Each student applicant must contact the relevant health insurance company before enrolling. The chosen health insurance company must be requested to send the insurance confirmation electronically to RPTU via SMV.

A separate RPTU dispatch number is required for communication with health insurance companies. This is H0000543.

As a general rule, no enrollment without reporting insurance status!

The first report of the RPTU to the health insurance company is made after enrollment. For de-registration, the final notification is made.

External information on health insurance for students, possible individual additional contributions, comparison portal can be found here.

With a degree from a university of applied sciences, you have the right to enter a university.

Rhineland-Palatinate

You are eligible to study in a related degree program at a university in Rhineland-Palatinate if you have earned 90 credit points (LP) in a bachelor's degree program at a university of applied sciences in Rhineland-Palatinate.
Other federal states

If you have achieved credits at a university of applied sciences in another federal state, then the state law is decisive for you, according to which the transfer from a university of applied sciences to a university is regulated for the corresponding federal state.

Different regulations apply to achievements in a diploma program.
The legal regulations for these statements can be found in the Higher Education Act of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, there § 33

Your university entrance qualification (HZB, e.g. Abitur) is a prerequisite for studying at RPTU. However, the German Abitur or a comparable educational qualification is only one of several possibilities to qualify for studies.

At some schools, a subject-linked university entrance qualification is obtained, which entitles the student to study only certain fields of study.

The Fachhochschulreife entitles the holder to study at a university of applied sciences.

Under certain conditions, it is also possible to study without a high school diploma.

Foreign educational certificates must be equivalent to the German Abitur in order to be recognized as a university entrance qualification (HZB). A prior certificate evaluation fee must be paid for the verification.

All applicants whose foreign HZB does not allow direct access must take the assessment test. You cannot take an assessment test at RPTU. At www.studienkollegs.de/Kontaktdaten.html you will find the contact details of the German Studienkollegs.

Please plan to submit your application in time so that your transcripts can be reviewed sufficiently early. This is also important if you need to apply for a visa to study in Germany.

Additional requirements for China, Vietnam and India:
Applicants from China, Vietnam and India must include the certificate of the Academic Review Board of the respective German Embassy with their application for admission. Unfortunately, applications without this certificate cannot be processed.
The address of the Akademische Prüfstelle is:

The RPTU is required by the Special List of Fees (RLP) to charge fees for the evaluation of foreign certificates.
Exempt from this are:

  • Exchange students, e.g. from partner schools or within the framework of the ERASMUS program.

All other foreign applicants are required to pay the certificate evaluation fee of €60.00 for the examination.
You will receive a separate request for payment with details of the bank account and the purpose of payment. Early payment is not possible.

It is required that you prove your German language skills if you want to apply for a German language program.

Step 5: You enroll by mail at the RPTU - Landau location. You will receive all necessary information for enrollment with the admission letter.

General information about the application process

Please use our applicant portal for both open-admission and restricted-admission programs. In the case of open-admission programs, you can enroll immediately after submitting your application. In the case of restricted-admission programs, the application serves as an application for admission. Enrollment is possible afterwards if you have received admission.

To begin the application process, please set up an applicant account in our applicant portal. To do this, call up the applicant portal and select "Register now" there. Please enter your personal data and a password of your choice and make a note of your access data to the portal (user name and password). After completing the registration, you will receive an e-mail with a link to confirm your registration, which you should click on.

For the admission-restricted Bachelor's programs "Human and Environment" and "Psychology", please also register first at hochschulstart.de. There you will be provided with a BID and BAN number, which you please indicate in the further application via our portal.

After you have registered in our portal, you can start your application.

Here you have the possibility to prepare several applications. However, only three applications can be finally submitted. An application in preparation can be withdrawn by "Withdraw application". In order for your application to be valid and evaluated, please submit it by selecting "Submit Application". After final submission, you will not be able to make any changes to the content of your application. Therefore, please check your entries carefully beforehand.

In the case of admission-restricted courses of study, please print out the PDF with the application for admission, which will now be made available to you in the portal, and send it together with the documents indicated on it by mail to the responsible department 4.6 Studierendensekretariat Landau.

Important note: If you have already been enrolled at a university, it is mandatory that you inform us of this, even if you intend to apply for the first semester. Furthermore, applications for recognition must already be submitted at the time of application.

Applicants for a Master's degree program should enclose proof of a successfully completed Bachelor's degree program or an equivalent degree with their application. If you have not yet completed the degree program, please attach a current transcript of records.

The application for dual enrollment in the bachelor's and master's degree program in teaching is available on the Change of Program and Subject page.

The receipt of your application for admission will be confirmed to you by status mail by displaying the application status "Postal documents received by university" in the portal. In the case of completely admission-free degree programs, the application status "Admitted" is automatically displayed. You will be informed by e-mail of any changes to your application status and will then find more detailed information in the applicant portal.

You will be notified of the result of the admission procedure by mail. Exception: In the case of the Bachelor's degree programs "Human and Environment" and "Psychology", you will receive notification of the result of your application exclusively via the applicant portal and hochschulstart.de.

Your application for admission can be processed if it has been received by the university on time and in full and if you fulfill the basic admission requirements.

 a) Applicants for an open-admission program will always be granted a place on the program if the admission requirements are met. You can enroll immediately after entering your data in the "Application for Admission". Information on enrollment can be found under Enrollment.

This applies equally to multi-subject programs (i.e. to the teaching bachelor's program and the two-subject bachelor's program) if you have chosen only subjects that do not require admission.

b) Applicants for a degree program with restricted admission or for multi-subject programs (teaching-related Bachelor's degree program, two-subject Bachelor's degree program) with subjects with restricted admission take part in the selection procedure. The selection procedure consists of a main procedure and an optional postponement procedure.

In the case of combined degree programs, the selection must be carried out separately for each subject. In the case of combined degree programs, we can only grant you admission once you have been admitted to each subject with restricted admission.

You will be notified of the result of the admission procedure by mail. Exception: In the case of the Bachelor's degree programs "Human and Environment" and "Psychology", you will receive notification of the result of your application exclusively via the applicant portal and hochschulstart.de.

After successful admission, please enroll.

a) You have received admission for each subject of your application:

You will receive an admission notice by mail and can now enroll. On the admission notice you will find further information about the enrollment process (especially deadline and required documents).

However, you will only receive the postal notification of admission if you have applied for an admission-restricted (partial) subject; otherwise, admission will be automatic and will only be confirmed in the applicant portal.

b) You have applied for an admission-restricted single-subject program and have not received admission:

You will receive a rejection notice by mail. The rejection notice is accompanied by a declaration for participation in the postponement procedure. If you would like to take part in the postponement procedure, please send us this declaration within the specified period.

You also have the alternative option of applying for an admission-free degree program. This is possible before as well as after the late entry procedure. This ensures that you will be able to obtain a study place and start your studies regardless of the result of the late admission procedure.

c) You have applied for a multi-subject study program (teaching-related Bachelor's program, two-subject Bachelor's program) and have not received admission for each subject of your combination study program, but only partial admissions:

In the case of combination degree programs, the selection is carried out separately for each associated subject. If you are unable to gain admission for at least one subject in the selection process, you will receive a rejection notice by mail.

In the rejection notice you will be informed about the admitted subjects (partial admissions). The rejection letter will be accompanied by an application for participation in the advanced admission procedure. If you would like to take part in the advanced placement procedure with the rejected subjects, please send us this application within the specified period. Your partial admissions will then remain with you.

You also have the alternative option of applying for an admission-free subject as a replacement for the rejected subject. This is possible both before and after the move-up procedure. This ensures that you will always receive a study place and be able to start your studies, regardless of the outcome of the postponement procedure.

If, in the case of teacher training courses, you have not received admission for your intended type of school, elementary school or special needs school, you can apply for enrollment for two teaching subjects and begin your studies for your intended type of school, Realschule Plus or Gymnasium.

For admission-free (combination) degree programs, you will immediately be given the opportunity to enroll (matriculation).

For restricted-admission programs or combination programs with restricted-admission sub-subjects, you must first wait for the result of the admission procedure. In this case, you can only enroll for the desired degree program if you have received admission.

You will find more information on the deadline for enrollment and on the documents to be submitted on the admission letter.

Please use the applicant portal for enrollment. Afterwards, please print out the PDF with the enrollment application and send it by mail to the responsible department 4.6 Studierendensekretariat Landau.

The following documents must be submitted for enrollment:

Proof of payment of the semester fee
If applicable, proof of having passed the qualifying examination (in the subjects fine arts, performing arts and sports), if not already submitted with the application for admission.
Electronic health insurance certificate M10 in the digital student registration procedure (SMV), the RPTU dispatch number is H0000543.

Only from applicants who were previously enrolled at other universities:

Copies of the exmatriculation certificates from all universities attended. The exmatriculation certificate must show your name and the exmatriculation note...
Evidence of university examinations (copies only, please).
If you are applying for a higher semester, please enclose your application for recognition of previous studies. You will find more detailed information on your application for admission.

If incorrect or incomplete documents are submitted, enrollment cannot take place. After successful enrollment, you will receive a confirmation of your enrollment by mail with further information for your start of studies at RPTU in Landau.

The application period for the winter semester begins in mid-May (Kaiserslautern) and mid-June (Landau), for the summer semester in mid-December.
