Admission requirements
To study at a university, you need a corresponding qualification: a university entrance qualification (HZB, e.g. Abitur, Assessment test).
For certain degree programs, you must meet additional admission requirements, such as special language skills, aptitude tests, etc
Here you will find further information on the general admission requirements for studying at RPTU.
If you did not complete your school-leaving certificate in Germany or at a German school abroad, you must provide proof of sufficient German language skills. More information about language skills.
For some degree programs, an aptitude test must be taken before applying:

| Performing game (Landau teaching certificate) | More information and registration |
Applicants for the B.Sc. degree program Psychology (Landau) may take an aptitude test (BaPsy-DGPs) beginning from winter semester 23/24. This test is not mandatory, but it will improve your ranking compared to applications without an aptitude test. More information about the test can be found on the Psychology Department website and the official website of the test.
Good to know:
- The aptitude tests usually take place before the application period, so please be informed about the dates well in advance.
- Even after passing the aptitude test, you still have to apply for the course.
All applicants and students must prove to the university at the time of enrolment that they are insured in a statutory health insurance scheme or are exempt from compulsory insurance or are not subject to compulsory insurance. The legal basis for this is § 199 a of the 5th Social Security Code (SGB V).
Proof of statutory health insurance must be provided using the digital student registration procedure (SMV). Notifications in paper form can no longer be accepted!
Every student applicant must contact the relevant health insurance company before enrolling. The selected health insurance company must be requested to send the insurance confirmation to RPTU electronically via the SMV.
A separate RPTU sender number is required for communication with the health insurance companies. This is H0000543.
As a general rule: No enrollment without notification of insurance status!
The first notification of the RPTU to the health insurance company takes place after enrollment. The final notification is made upon de-registration.
External information on health insurance for students, possible individual additional contributions, comparison portal can be found here.
For subjects/study programmes with limited admission, the available study places are allocated before the application procedure begins.
Further information about study programs with restricted admission.
A degree from a university of applied sciences qualifies you for admission to a university.
Rhineland-Palatinate
You are entitled to study in a related degree program at a university in Rhineland-Palatinate if you have achieved 90 credit points (CP) in a Bachelor's degree program at a university of applied sciences in Rhineland-Palatinate.
Other federal states in Germany
If you have achieved credits at a university of applied sciences in another federal state, then the state law is decisive for you, according to which the transfer from a university of applied sciences to a university is regulated for the respective federal state.
Different regulations apply to achievements in a diploma course.
You will find the legal regulations for these explanations in the Higher Education Act of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, § 33
If you have already studied and achieved good grades in your previous studies, you can apply for recognition. Depending on the scope of your creditable achievements, you may be placed in a higher semester.
Degree programs with admission restrictions
It is possible to transfer to a higher semester of a degree program with admission restrictions if there are places available in the higher semester of the desired degree program and the academic achievements of the higher semester have been completed and recognized. If you have a subject-specific university entrance qualification (HZB), you must submit a copy of your HZB again in addition to your application.
Apply with an international university entrance qualification
International educational certificates must be equivalent to the German Abitur in order to be recognized as a university entrance qualification (HZB).
In Kaiserslautern, a certificate evaluation fee of 60 euros must be paid in advance for the verification. In Landau, the service center uni-assist.de is responsible for verification.
All applicants whose international HZB does not allow direct admission must take the assessment test (Feststellungsprüfung, Studienkolleg). You cannot take the assessment test at RPTU. Please find more information on Studienkollegs
Please plan to submit your application in good time so that your certificates can be checked early enough. This is also important if you need to apply for a visa to study in Germany.
Additional requirements for China, Vietnam and India:
Applicants from China, Vietnam and India must enclose the certificate from the Academic Evaluation Center of the respective German Embassy with their application for admission. Unfortunately, applications without this certificate cannot be processed.

Minors require parental consent to apply and enroll.
Your application must be received in good time. The date of receipt by the RPTU is decisive.
You will receive a request to pay the evaluation fee in the application portal inbox.
RPTU will endeavor to inform you before the application deadline whether your application contains errors that could result in exclusion from the admission procedure. Admission and enrollment (matriculation) are the next steps on the way to your studies at RPTU after your application.
At RPTU it is possible to enroll without appearing in person. To do so, you must
- receive an admission letter,
- submit all necessary documents,
- submitted an electronic confirmation of insurance from a German or European health insurance company and
- have paid the tuition fees.
Important: If you have received an admission letter for a degree program with restricted admission, you must adhere to the deadline stated therein. If you miss this deadline, you will lose your place.
The amount of the semester fee can be found in your letter of admission. You will receive the letter of admission in your inbox in the application portal.
The next step is to pay the semester fee.
For proof of health insurance, contact your insurance company and ask them to send the insurance confirmation electronically to the RPTU using the following number: H0000543.
If you are privately insured, contact any statutory health insurance company with your confirmation of insurance and ask for proof of exemption, which the statutory health insurance company will send to the RPTU, quoting the above number.
Notifications in paper form can no longer be accepted.
The legal basis for this is § 199 a of the 5th Social Security Code (SGB V).
If you are still attending the German course at RPTU in Kaiserslautern, you are not subject to compulsory health insurance and must therefore insure yourself (e.g. via private health insurance).
Enrollment (matriculation) is the final step on the way to your studies at RPTU after application and admission.
Once you have completed all the steps for enrollment, you will be enrolled. Your status in the application portal will change to “enrolled.”
Next, you will receive a notification when your student ID card and IT access data for your studies have been created.
The legal basis for this is the RPTU enrollment regulations.
Once you have applied and been accepted, there are still a few things you need to do to enroll (immatriculate). This checklist can help you keep track of everything.
