Access requirements

To study at a university, you need a corresponding qualification: a higher education entrance qualification (HZB, e.g. Abitur).
For certain degree programs, you must meet additional admission requirements, such as special language skills, aptitude tests, etc

Here you will find further information on the general admission requirements for studying at RPTU.

With a subject-specific university entrance qualification (e.g. after an apprenticeship), you can apply for subject-related degree programs. For further information on applying with and without an Abitur, see below.

For some degree programs, an aptitude test must be taken before applying:

  • sports (teaching training in Kaiserslautern and Landau)
  • sports science and health (Kaiserslautern)
  • sports science (dual-subject Bachelor Landau)
More information and registration here
  • visual arts (teaching qual)
  • art studies (two-subject Bachelor Landau)
More information and registration here
Performing game (Landau teaching certificate)More information and registration here

For the B.Sc. degree program Psychology (Landau) you have been able to take an aptitude test (BaPsy-DGPs) since the winter semester 23/24. This test is not mandatory, but it will definitely improve your ranking compared to applications without an aptitude test. More information about the test can be found on the Psychology Department website and the official website of the test.

Good to know:

  • The aptitude tests usually take place before the application period, so find out about the dates well in advance.
  • Even after passing the aptitude test, you still have to apply for the course.

If you did not complete your school-leaving certificate in Germany or at a German school abroad, you must provide proof of sufficient German language skills. You can find more information here.

All applicants and students must prove to the university at the time of enrolment that they are insured in a statutory health insurance scheme or are exempt from compulsory insurance or are not subject to compulsory insurance. The legal basis for this is § 199 a of the 5th Social Security Code (SGB V).

Proof of statutory health insurance must be provided using the digital student registration procedure (SMV). Notifications in paper form can no longer be accepted!

Every student applicant must contact the relevant health insurance company before enrolling. The selected health insurance company must be requested to send the insurance confirmation to RPTU electronically via the SMV.

A separate RPTU sender number is required for communication with the health insurance companies. This is H0000543.

As a general rule: No enrollment without notification of insurance status!
The first notification of the RPTU to the health insurance company takes place after enrollment. The final notification is made upon de-registration.
External information on health insurance for students, possible individual additional contributions, comparison portal can be found here.

For subjects/study programs with restricted admission, only the number of study places to be allocated is determined before the application procedure.
Further information can be found here.

Apply without high school diploma

It is also possible to study certain degree courses without a general university entrance qualification. The following qualifications create the prerequisites for this:
Direct subject-specific higher education entrance qualification (based on vocational training):

The following admission requirements must be met:

Completion of vocational training with an overall grade point average from the final vocational training examination and the final certificate from the vocational school of at least 2.5
The vocational training must be sufficiently related to the chosen course of study. Furthermore, the subject-relatedness must also be determined on the basis of professional and comparable activities.

Direct (general) university entrance qualification (building on a master's degree or a qualification equivalent to a master's degree):

The following admission requirements must be met:

A completed master craftsman's examination or a comparable professional qualification
Further training equivalent to a master craftsman's certificate must be based on a course comprising at least 400 hours of instruction and require completed (state-recognized) vocational training as a prerequisite.

Apply with an international university entrance qualification

International educational certificates must be equivalent to the German Abitur in order to be recognized as a university entrance qualification (HZB).

In Kaiserslautern, a certificate evaluation fee of 60 euros must be paid in advance for the verification. In Landau, the service center uni-assist.de is responsible for verification.

All applicants whose international HZB does not allow direct admission must take the assessment test. You cannot take the assessment test at RPTU.

Please plan to submit your application in good time so that your certificates can be checked early enough. This is also important if you need to apply for a visa to study in Germany.

Additional requirements for China, Vietnam and India:
Applicants from China, Vietnam and India must enclose the certificate from the Academic Evaluation Center of the respective German Embassy with their application for admission. Unfortunately, applications without this certificate cannot be processed. Further information can be found here.

The next steps

Application procedure

Please use our applicant portal for both open-admission and restricted-admission degree programs.
For open-admission degree programs, you can enroll immediately after submitting your application. For degree programs with admission restrictions, the application serves as an application for admission. You can then enrol if you have been admitted.

You can view your current application status at any time in the applicant portal

More information about the application

Please apply via our application portals.

There are currently two separate application portals for Kaiserslautern and Landau. If you wish to study in Kaiserslautern or Landau, please follow the instructions on the following page.

Your application must be received in good time. The date of receipt by the RPTU is decisive.

Note: In Landau, please submit the documents by post!

RPTU will endeavor to inform you before the application deadline whether your application contains errors that could result in exclusion from the admission procedure. Your application must be received by RPTU by the end of the application period. Applications received late can no longer be considered in the admission procedure for the semester in question.

Study programs with admission restrictions

Applications for degree programs with restricted admission cannot be expected to receive a response until after the application deadline at the earliest.

Notifications of admission for the winter semester can therefore be expected to be sent out from the beginning of August. Decisions for the respective succession procedure will be communicated at a later date. For the summer semester, you can expect a reply from the beginning of February.

Admission-free degree programs

In Kaiserslautern: Once your documents have been checked, you will receive feedback promptly.
In Landau: You can directly follow the online enrollment process with your application.

You can view your current application status at any time in the applicant portal

Admission and enrollment (matriculation) are the next steps on the way to your studies at RPTU after your application.

At RPTU it is possible to enrol without appearing in person. To do this, you must receive:

  • an admission letter
  • submit all necessary documents
  • and have paid the tuition fees.

Important: If you receive an admission letter for a degree program with restricted admission, you must declare your acceptance of the study place by paying the tuition fees within the deadlines specified therein. If you miss this deadline, you will lose your place.

Payment of the semester fee
The next step is to pay the semester fee. This is the prerequisite for enrollment.

Every applicant must contact the relevant health insurance company before enrolling. The chosen health insurance company must be requested to send the insurance confirmation electronically to RPTU via the SMV.
A separate RPTU sender number is required for communication with the health insurance companies. This is H0000543. Notifications in paper form can no longer be accepted!

The legal basis for this is § 199 a of the 5th Social Security Code (SGB V).

Enrollment

Admission and enrollment (matriculation) are the next steps on the way to your studies at RPTU after your application.

Change of degree program and subject

If you want to change your degree course, switch from a Bachelor's to a Master's degree course or study another degree course (double degree course), this is called a change of degree course. A change of major or minor subject or study focus is called a change of subject.

Further information can be found here.

Studying at both locations

If you decide to study to become a teacher at RPTU, you have the option of combining this at both locations. Studying at both locations is only possible if a subject combination cannot be studied at one location
