Exchange - Incoming Students

Studying abroad lets you experience other life styles and gives you an opportunity to view your own country from a different perspective.
Furthermore, your language abilities will improve, you can expand your professional knowledge and you will bring home a wealth of personal experience.
The following pages are directed at students who want to learn what opportunities exist and how to pursue their studies as incoming students at RPTU.

Semester Dates:

· Winter semester:

Lectures start around the middle of October and last until the middle of February

The exam period begins in the middle of February and ends in the middle of April

· Summer Semester:

Lectures start in the middle of April and end in the middle of July

The exam period begins in the middle of July and ends in the middle of September

There can be deviations from the above stated dates. Exceptions can be made in case of a temporal overlap between the exam date and the departure date. Only the department can determine whether exceptions are possible and if so how they will look like.

FAQs

You need one or both of the following:

English: at least B1 (recommended together with basic German at A1 level)
German: at least B1 (if you plan to attend courses taught in German)

Kaiserslautern has a lower cost of living than many larger German cities.

We nevertheless recommend budgeting at least 900€ a month.

You can study at the RPTU as a

Freemover student (your university does not have a partnership with the RPTU)

Internships

Internships mus be arranged independently. We recommend contacting professors in your field to enquire about opportunities.

Once you have received an internship offer, you can contact incomings-exchange-kl[at]rptu.de , and we will guide you through the next steps.

Yes, we offer German language courses at different levels as well as an Orientation course for international students.

Winter Semester: May 31st

You can apply for student housing through the Studierendenwerk.

Please note that accomodation can not be guaranteed. If no room is available, you may need to look for private accomodation. You will receive tips on where to look via email.

Health Insurance is mandatory for all students enrolled at RPTU.

You will need to submit proof of valid health insurance during enrolment. We will provide detailed instructions after your application has been accepted.

We also strongly recommend taking out personal liability insurance.
