Award procedure

For courses/subjects with restricted admission, initially

  •     5% for foreign nationals
  •     2% for cases of exceptional hardship
  •     3% for selection for a second degree
  •     2% for top athletes
    are allocated.

For the remaining places, 80% are allocated according to the criteria of the university (usually the average grade of the baccalaureate). The remaining places are allocated according to waiting time.

Marginal ranks (Numerus clausus)

In the case of subjects/programs with restricted admissions, only the number of study places to be awarded is determined before the application procedure. The marginal ranks are only determined in the course of the selection procedure from the number of places to be allocated and the average grades and waiting semesters of the applicants. Consequently, they are the result of supply and demand and should therefore only be taken as a guide. Forecasts about the chances of admission in future allocation procedures cannot be derived from this.

There is no allocation procedure for admission-free degree programs. Admission can be granted after direct examination.
