The TU-Nachwuchsring
Who we are and what we work for
Since 2014 the TU-Nachwuchsring is the central interdisciplinary institution to support young scientists of the RPTU. We offer
- interdisciplinary networking
- professional further qualification and soft skills through courses
- financial funding opportunities
- coaching services
Our motto is: By and for young scientists
The offer is oriented to the needs and interests of young scientists at RPTU. It ranges from financial support to special programs for young scientists.
It is made possible by doctoral students, postdoctorals, junior proffesors, group leaders and tenure track proffesors, who are engaged in the Nachwuchsring and develop the offer.
Concept and rules of procedure
The concept of the TU-Nachwuchsring is flexible and permanent in process for further development. A central idea is "young scientists as partner" of the training strategy of the TU-Nachwuchsring based on partnership. When qualifying the young sientists, the institution counts on voluntary principle: the participation on workshops, events and other opportunities are not obligatory but represent an offer that accompanies the career of young scientists according to individual needs.
Most recently, the assembly of delegates of the Nachwuchsring has completely revised its rules of procedure as of 01.01.2021. In the future, this will allow for an even more targeted consideration of the needs of the individual target groups of the Nachwuchsring - especially those of the young scientists with doctorates at the RPTU.

Structure and organisation of the TU-Nachwuchsring
On the organizational level, the Nachwuchsring consists of the Assembly of delegates, the Board of management, and the Executive board. The Nachwuchsring documents its activities to the Supervisory board.
In the Assembly of delegates of the Nachwuchsring, doctoral candidates, postdocs and junior professors from all departments are involved in accordance with the motto "by and for young scientists". In committees, they develop a wide variety of support measures, ranging from financial support opportunities to a continuing education program tailored specifically to young scientists.
Members of the Nachwuchsring are all doctoral candidates registered at the RPTU as well as postdocs, junior professors, junior research group leaders and tenure-track professors who register as members with the administration office.
Formation of the TU-Nachwuchsring
The Nachwuchsring was founded and developed in 2008 as part of the Rhineland-Palatinate research initiative at the Research Centre (CM)². He was supported by the Carl Zeiss Foundation for four years. Since 2014, the TU Nachwuchsring, which continues to be financed by the research initiative of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, has developed from the idea of bringing together young researchers from individual research initiatives. At the end of 2014, the TU Nachwuchsring was strengthened by a management office, which functions as the central contact point for all young researchers in addition being responsible for all administrative tasks. Since then, the TU Nachwuchsring has become well established as part of the promotion of young scientists at the RPTU.
Offers and funding lines of the TU-Nachwuchsring
The most important instruments for supporting young scientists are regular workshops and events as well as alloction of resources for postdocs, so they can prepare applications for external funding (research funding).
Moreover it is possible to apply for grants for travels or for participating on national and international conferneces as well as short research stays of external institutions (mobility funding).
Our third funding line project funding is meant for smaller purposes that are not funded otherwise (for example meetings of Ph.D.s).
In our coaching line it is possible to apply for individual coachings for postdocs and junior professors, among others.
Furthermore the TU-Nachwuchsring develops instruments for equalization as well as family funding together with other responsible institutions of the RPTU.
