Publication Fund of the RPTU
Through the Central Publication Fund, young scientists (as defined by the Nachwuchsring) can apply for financial support for their Open Access Publication Charges (APC - Article Processing Charge). In contrast to the previous program, there are the following new features:
The University Library reimburses young scientists* a basic grant of up to 1,000 euros per publication.
A one-time grant of up to 3,000 euros per junior researcher can be taken over per calendar year.
If the APC is less than the basic funding, only the stated invoice amount will be reimbursed.
Funding is available for the following types of Open Access publications published in the current calendar year:
- Contributions to scientific journals and conference proceedings regardless of whether the publication is in an OA-only journal (i.e., gold and hybrid)
- Contributions in edited volumes (Gold)
- Collected works (Gold)
- Monographs (Gold)
Dissertations are excluded from funding. These can be published free of charge through KLUEDO.
More information on funding can be found on the UB website.
As a further service, the Open Access team also offers advice on the selection of a suitable journal, on publishing on KLUEDO, on the selection of a suitable CC license, and on secondary publication rights. If you are interested, it is best to contact the UB staff directly.
Financial support for OA articles in journals
Another possibility to publish articles in OA (gold and hybrid) are the DEAL contracts with Wiley and Springer. Both contracts were concluded nationwide and initiated by the Hochschulrektorenkonferenz (German Rectors' Conference).
All Corresponding Authors of the RPTU have the possibility to have their articles published in a hybrid journal Open Access without additional costs for the authors, or get a discount on the publication in a gold OA journal. Invoicing is then done centrally by the UB without any costs for the author (at least so far).
This offer is supplemented by contracts with Nature, IOP, AIP, Hogrefe and PLOS. The exact modalities can be found on the pages of the UB.
The scholarship supports female scientists following family phases (taking care of children or relatives in need of care).
More information can be found here.

The Equality, Diversity and Family Affairs Office at RPTU

START-UPS
With the EXIST-Gründerstipendium and EXIST-Forschungstransfer programs, the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy supports particularly innovative start-up ideas from universities, universities of applied sciences and research institutes.
To support innovative technology-oriented start-up ideas from universities, the BMWi has launched the EXIST-GRÜNDERSTIPENDIUM. Under this program, a team of up to three people receives a one-year grant, which, in addition to covering living expenses, includes material and coaching resources. The EXIST-FORSCHUNGSTRANSFER program, also initiated by the BMWi, serves to promote outstanding, research-based projects that require high-risk development work. Funding is available for up to three years. In addition to a research team of up to three employees, a business economist can also be funded.
If you have any questions, you can contact the start-up office of the RPTU and KL University of Applied Sciences, which offers intensive support in applying for projects and assists founders during the EXIST funding phase in all start-up-related matters. You can find more information about the above-mentioned and other programs for founders directly on the pages of the Gründungsbüro.
