Lecture Series: Insights into Conflict Hotspots Around the Globe

Berlin School of Economics and Law (HWR) in cooperation with the Peace Academy Rhineland-Platinate

Organized by Prof. Dr. Janpeter Schilling (HWR) and Prof. Dr. Silke Bustamante (HWR)

Over the past 14 years, our world has seen a strong rise in violent conflicts. While all violent conflicts lead to significant human suffering and destruction, their causes are case-specific and highly complex. The lecture series provides insights into the complexity of ongoing conflict hotspots around the globe. After an overview of global conflict trends, the lecture series brings together international experts who share their perspective on the drivers, developments and potential mitigation efforts of relevant conflicts, including the current war in the Middle East, the Russia-Ukraine war as well as smaller-scale violent conflicts related to resource extraction and regimes changes in Africa and Latin America. Participants of the lecture series will not only gain a deeper understanding of specific conflicts and engage and discuss critical issues with experts, participants will also be able to compare conflict dynamics and uncover structural causes of violent conflict.

All sessions will take place from 16:15 to 17:45 (CEST) via Zoom. To receive the access link, please register by sending an email to friedensakademie-rlp[at]rptu.de.
