Important information & interesting facts

for doctoral candidates

What is the difference between acceptance, registration and enrolment as a doctoral candidate at RPTU?

Acceptance as doctoral candidate

In order to be able to do a doctorate at RPTU, all doctoral candidates must be accepted as a doctoral candidate by a department at RPTU. Further details are regulated by the doctoral regulations (Promotionsordnung); if you have any questions, the Dean's Office of the respective department is the first point of contact.

Registration as doctoral candidate

After acceptance as a doctoral candidate, all doctoral candidates are obliged to officially register as a doctoral candidate. The background to this regulation is the Higher Education Statistics Act (Hochschulstatistikgesetz - HStatG). Registration at RPTU takes place via the Student Service Centre (SSC). More information on registration in KL and LD can be found here.

Registration as a doctoral student is possible at any time!

Enrolment as a doctoral student

In addition to registering, doctoral candidates can also enrol as doctoral students at RPTU at the start of each semester. Enrolment also takes place via the SSC.

RPTU-internal and external funding programmes for doctoral candidates

In addition to the programmes offered by the TU Nachwuchsring, there are many other exciting funding opportunities for doctoral candidates. Here you will find an overview of some of RPTU's funding programmes and support offers as well as a selection of external funding providers that are (also) aimed at doctoral students.

Supervision agreement for doctoral candidates

At RPTU, doctoral candidates and supervisors must jointly conclude a supervision agreement as part of a doctoral project. This is intended to make the supervisory relationship transparent for both parties in terms of content and time. You are welcome to use our sample supervision agreement as a template or suggestion, which is based on the DFG's recommendations:

Problems with your doctorate?

The Doctoral Ombuds Committee is the first, low-threshold point of contact for all doctoral candidates who are experiencing problems with their doctorate. Those seeking help can either contact the entire committee or just a single person of their choice - depending on the case and situation, the committee will then try to mediate or refer you to suitable offices/persons at RPTU. All enquiries will of course be treated confidentially and referrals or the involvement of other committee members will only take place with your consent.
