Visa Extension

Since you have only a temporary visa, you are required to apply for a residence permit (visa extension/Visaverlängerung) for study purposes at the Foreigner's Office / Ausländerbehörde in Landau within the first three months of your arrival in town.

An appointment with the Foreigners' Office is necessary and needs to be booked online:

Klaus-von-Klitzing-Straße 2
76829 Landau

Phone: 06341 - 133245
Fax: 06341 - 133249

Opening hours:

Mon: 8:30 am -  12:00 pm
Tue: 8:30 am -  12:00 pm, 14:00 -  16:00 pm
Wed: 8:30 am -  12:00 pm
Thu: 8:30 am -  12:00 pm, 14:00 -  18:00 pm

Note: only payment by EC-card accepted!

The residence permit for study purposes is usually issued for one year and can be extended until the end of your studies. Therefore, please arrange for an appointment with the Foreigners' Office well in time before your residence permit expires.
Also mind that you would need to apply again for a visa if your residence permit expires while you stay abroad (e.g., for an internship, visit to home  country).

Visa regulations:

If  you are a third country national – i.e. not a national of one of the Member States of the European Union (EU), the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland - and you wish to stay in Germany for a longer period of time, then you need a legal basis, the so-called “residence title”.

There are four different residence titles for long-term stays in the Federal Republic of Germany.
