Bank Account
In Germany most of the payments, e.g., monthly rent, health insurance, social contribution, are done by bank transfer. It is, hence, necessary to open a bank account/Bankkonto immediately after your arrival.
Various banks are located in Landau. Many banks offer free accounts for young people under 26 and students.
Please note: It is important that you have access to your money very soon after your arrival!
To open a German bank account, you need
- The registration confirmation from the town hall or foreigners' office, and
- Your personal tax ID number: The tax ID number is triggered when you register, and sent to you by postal mail ca. four weeks after you have registered at the town hall or foreigners' office.
Students with a blocked account: It can take up to two weeks to unblock your blocked account. You need to provide your German bankl details to the blocked account provider to receive the monthly installments to your account.
We recommend to carry cash in Euros from your home country for the first weeks (administration fees, semester contribution, first rent, health insurance, food, etc.) with you.
Immediately after your arrival you need to open a bank account.
