The Bachelor's degree course in Molecular Biology is scientifically oriented and provides a fundamental education in biology and natural sciences. The focus is on a broad basic knowledge in the fields of cell biology/genetics, microbiology/biotechnology, human biology, ecology and biodiversity, botany/zoology, animal and plant physiology, neuro- and developmental biology, bioinformatics as well as the basics in the subjects of chemistry, physics, programming and mathematics/biostatistics. The wide-ranging theoretical and practical training serves as the basis for entry into our subject-specific Master's degree course in Biology in one of the four specializations.
The first four semesters with 16 basic modules, each consisting of lectures and practicals/exercises, make up the core curriculum. In the third year, students deepen their biological knowledge in one or two academic fields in two advanced practical trainings with seminars and two modules with theoretical courses. The company or research internship as well as the freely selectable non-biological subject serve to orient and expand the professional field. At the end of the course, a 9-week research activity with a written thesis - the Bachelor's thesis - is on the agenda.
