The subject of metal technology involves both the acquisition of solid subject knowledge and the development of the teaching and subject didactic skills required in the teaching career. A significant part of the subject-specific didactic training is provided by practical school experience, which begins at an early stage in the bachelor's program. Insights into the working world are gained through a company project integrated into the course of study.

Curriculum

The teacher training programs consist of a bachelor's and a master's degree. The six-semester Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) does not yet qualify you for the teaching profession. In the course of the bachelor's program, you must make the final decision for a type of school (LAR+, LAG, LABBS) after the fourth semester; until then, the program takes place across all types of schools.

The master's degree programs specific to the teaching profession build on the B.Ed. with a varying duration. The Master of Education (M.Ed.) comprises four semesters in the LABBS programs. After successful completion of the M.Ed. you will receive the "First State Examination". This is the prerequisite for your entry into the preparatory service and the attainment of the Second State Examination.

The curricular standards that govern the study program guarantee a high standard of subject-specific knowledge and subject-specific didactics. Within the framework of both degree programs, a total of four school internships are completed during the lecture-free periods (http://schulpraktika.rlp.de/).

Admission to the studies requires a basic internship of 9 weeks. The internship must be proven by the end of the 5th semester at the latest. Since there is relatively little time for the basic internship during your studies, it is strongly recommended that you complete it before your studies.

At the TU Kaiserslautern you can choose the subject Metal Technology as your first subject for the teaching profession at vocational schools, in combination with one of the following subjects as your second subject:

Biology, Chemistry, Geography, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Social Studies, Physical Education.

Your third subject in any teaching degree program is educational science.

In addition, you can choose from many other subjects that you can study as a combination in Saarbrücken or Koblenz/Landau via the Südwestverbund. For more information, please contact the advisor at the ZfL (zfl@rptu.de).

In the teacher training program, as in almost all other programs, it is possible to gain experience abroad. Be it studying abroad for a semester or even doing one of the orienting internships abroad. There are some possibilities and even often funding in the form of a scholarship from the German Academic Foreign Service (DAAD).
