The Master's program in Product Development in Mechanical Engineering is the most broadly based Master's program in the Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering. The objective is to impart scientific method-oriented competencies that can be applied in research as well as in the development and design of machines, plants and technical products of all kinds - regardless of the specific industry. The compulsory modules therefore serve to deepen several essential sub-areas of mechanical engineering. With compulsory elective modules, the broad orientation can be strengthened or personal accents can be set in the direction of a specific industry.
The degree qualifies for a doctorate.
The compulsory modules Fluid Mechanics II, Fatigue Strength of Metallic Materials I, Mechanical Systems, Composites Calculation and Design, Digital Engineering II, Design Management and the Machine Design Lab or the Mechatronic Systems Lab comprise a total of 26 credit points. A further 21 credit points are earned in elective modules. In line with the program profile, the range of electives is also broad. The project thesis (12 LP) and the master's thesis (30 LP) provide students with the opportunity to demonstrate their ability to work scientifically. In addition, the study program provides for excursions of a total of two days (1 LP) duration, in the context of which contacts with manufacturing companies can be established.
