The subject of metal technology involves both the acquisition of solid subject knowledge and the development of the teaching and subject didactic skills required in the teaching profession. A significant part of the subject-specific didactic training is provided by practical school experience, which begins at an early stage in the bachelor's program. You will gain insights into the working world through a company project integrated into the course of study. A six-week pre-study internship in industry is a prerequisite for the program.
The teacher training programs consist of a bachelor's and a master's degree. The six-semester Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) does not yet qualify you for the teaching profession. In the course of the Bachelor's program, you must make the final decision for a type of school (LAR+, LAG, LABBS) after the fourth semester; until then, the program takes place across all types of schools.
The master's degree programs specific to the teaching profession build on the B.Ed. with a different duration. The Master of Education (M.Ed.) comprises four semesters in the LABBS program. After successful completion of the M.Ed. you will receive the "First State Examination". This is the prerequisite for your entry into the preparatory service and for obtaining the Second State Examination.
The curricular standards governing the program guarantee a high standard of academic and didactic knowledge. Within the framework of both courses of study, a total of four school internships are completed during the lecture-free periods (http://schulpraktika.rlp.de/).
The master's program for the teaching profession at vocational schools requires a Bachelor of Education in which two subjects and educational sciences have already been studied.
At the TU Kaiserslautern, you can choose the subject metal technology as your first subject for the teaching profession at vocational schools, in combination with one of the following subjects as your second subject:
Biology, Chemistry, Geography, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Social Studies, Physical Education.
Your third subject in any teaching degree program is educational science.
In addition, there are many other subjects to choose from, which you can study as a combination via the Südwestverbund in Saarbrücken or Koblenz. For more information, please contact the advisor at the ZfL (zfl@rptu.de).

In the teaching degree program, as in almost all other degree programs, it is possible to gain experience abroad. There are various possibilities and even often funding in the form of a scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
