The two-year Master's programme Mathematics International is a scientific-research-oriented programme that is geared to the needs of the international higher education market. The programme has a strong international orientation, in particular it includes a compulsory semester abroad (unless the university degree entitling the student to admission has already been obtained abroad).
No (non-mathematical) subsidiary subject has to be taken: The acquisition of in-depth knowledge in a non-mathematical field of application, which used to be obligatory in German mathematical degree programmes, is replaced by increased studies in the chosen area of specialisation as well as by the acquisition of other key qualifications (e.g. language, international experience).
In terms of content, the programme builds on the knowledge acquired in the Bachelor's degree programme in Mathematics at RPTU (or an equivalent degree programme). On the one hand, the education programme emphasises a broad mathematical education, in which students become acquainted with a wide variety of modern mathematical methods and in which their ability to recognise correlations and compare structures is promoted. On the other hand, the students are specifically introduced to current mathematical research in the chosen specialisation.
The programme is structured flexibly. It does not contain any compulsory subjects, but only prescribed scopes from certain subject catalogues. This should enable graduates to enter research according to their own abilities and inclinations.
In the chosen area of specialisation, 24 - 28 credit points (CP) in advanced lectures, reading courses amounting to 12 CP, at least one of the two seminars to be completed (3 CP each), as well as the Master's thesis must be completed. In addition, the curriculum includes 24 - 27 CP in applied mathematics, 18 - 21 CP in pure mathematics and 6 - 8 CP in a non-mathematical elective subject.
Prerequisite for the admission to the Master's programme is the successful completion of the Bachelor's examination in Mathematics at RPTU in Kaiserslautern or at least equivalent examination results that include a professionally qualifying university degree (e.g. Bachelor's or Diploma's degree).
In addition, further criteria will be used to check whether you are suitable for the programme in terms of subject and language, see
https://math.rptu.de/en/studies/studiengaenge/msc/mathint
In order to enable students from other Bachelor's or Diploma degree programmes (in particular students with foreign degrees) to be academically at par with the Bachelor’s students from RPTU in Kaiserslautern, candidates might be provided with a conditional admission. This means that the candidates might have to attend additional courses (alongside their usual Master's lectures) and pass the corresponding examinations with a sufficient grade within the first academic year.
The broad education in mathematics with simultaneous specialisation in a particular area of mathematics, together with the key qualifications imparted during the degree programme, open up a wide range of job opportunities for graduates. The demand for mathematicians has become so great that they can choose between various job offers to start their careers. The reason is that more and more services are in demand: Management consultants, software houses, research departments of large companies, banks and insurance companies are sweeping the market of workers with the appropriate training.

The degree programme can be completed entirely in English. Applicants must demonstrate a good level of competence in the English language (e.g. TOEFL of 550/213/80 points). Prior knowledge in German language is not necessarily required, but international students have to pass a German language test within their first academic year.
The degree programme includes a compulsory semester abroad (unless the degree entitling the student to admission has already been obtained abroad). The semesters abroad are supported organisationally by the Graduate School Mathematics as a Key Technology: https://math.rptu.de/en/organisation/graduate-school
