The degree programme is designed similarly to a classic business degree programme. However, in addition to the main focus on economic topics, we offer you the opportunity to take technical subjects from your chosen technical specialisation. This way, you will not only gain a sound business education, but also valuable technical know-how that will make you versatile in your future career.
We place particular emphasis on giving you the necessary "tools of the trade" for your academic career. Everything starts with the "scientific basics and methods". We start with mathematics and statistics, which provide you with a solid foundation for many subjects in business administration and economics. Don't worry, we will help you master these subjects, which are often perceived as difficult, and teach you the joy of applying them to the world of business. But that's not all, because we also want to introduce you to the fascinating world of Data Science. Here you will learn how to extract valuable information from extensive amounts of data and derive practical recommendations for action for company management. With this knowledge, you will be able to master real challenges in the business world and develop innovative solutions.
To make your education holistic, we will also train you in science theory and soft skills. These skills are invaluable for your personal development and future career. Not only will you be well prepared professionally, but you will also be trained to become critical thinkers and empathetic team players.
You will be taught the basics of business and economics through varied lectures, practical exercises and personal tutorials in the fundamentals of economics. Three important areas of business administration are covered:
Business Administration I: Accounting & Finance: Here you will learn the basics of cost and revenue accounting as well as financial reporting. Investment and financial accounting are also on the programme.
Business Administration II: Management: This area gives you an introduction to the management of companies. You will become familiar with topics such as organisation, strategy, marketing, human resources management and digital transformation.
Business Administration III: Intelligence, Logistics & Operations: This part is more mathematically and methodically oriented and includes an introduction to production control procedures, logistics, operations research and business informatics.
The two foundation modules in economics offer you a fascinating insight into how the economy works at different levels. In microeconomics, you'll get an overview of the structure of markets and how prices for goods are formed. You also learn how decisions are made by companies regarding their market entry and how this affects the overall economic welfare. Macroeconomics, on the other hand, teaches you the basics of national accounts. Here you learn how macroeconomic variables such as employment (unemployment) and inflation are determined. In addition, macroeconomic development patterns such as economic activity and growth are analysed.
Civil and company law form an important basis for entrepreneurial decisions. Here you will become familiar with the legal aspects that are of great importance for companies.
These exciting modules will provide you with a comprehensive understanding of business issues and prepare you to make informed decisions in the business world. The knowledge you acquire will help you to master the complex challenges of the business world and become successful entrepreneurs or experts in the field of economics.
Building on this, you have the opportunity to choose your two specialisations from four exciting profile areas - this means you can shape your studies entirely according to your interests! And within these areas, you have even more options to choose from in order to deepen your knowledge of the topics that fascinate you the most.
Take a look at the profile areas we offer that build on the basics:
- Accounting & Finance
- Management, Intelligence
- Intelligence, Logistics & Operations
- Economics and Sustainability
In each of these profile areas you will find versatile modules that will help you to deepen the basics and expand your knowledge. You can expect interesting content that will enrich your academic path. Starting in the winter semester 2024/25, a fifth profile area, "Data Analytics", will be available for selection.
It will be particularly exciting in one of the profile areas, because here you will complete a seminar in which you will write a paper and give a presentation. This is a great opportunity to apply and reflect on your knowledge in a practical way.
In the technical part of our degree programme, you have the opportunity to choose one of the following specialisations:
Civil engineering: Civil engineering deals with the design, construction and operation of structures such as buildings, bridges, roads, dams and other infrastructure. Civil engineers design and supervise construction projects, pay attention to the safety and stability of structures, while taking into account environmental and economic aspects.
Electrical engineering: Electrical engineering is concerned with the research, development and application of electrical systems and technologies. This includes electrical circuits, controls, electronics, communication technology, power generation and distribution, and automation systems.
Computer science: Computer science deals with the theory, development and application of computers and computer-based systems. This includes software development, databases, artificial intelligence, algorithms, programming, networks and more.
Mechanical engineering: Mechanical engineering involves the design, development and manufacture of mechanical systems and devices. This includes machines, engines, tools, transportation and production equipment. Mechanical engineers design solutions that use mechanics, thermodynamics, kinematics and materials science.
Process engineering: Process engineering deals with the development, design and optimisation of processes and procedures in the chemical, pharmaceutical, food and other industries. The aim is to convert raw materials into valuable products, taking into account aspects such as efficiency, safety and environmental compatibility.
This interdisciplinary technical component makes up 20% of the teaching content.
Through this versatile education, you will be able to apply business knowledge in a technical environment, to communicate on an equal footing with computer scientists and engineers, and to understand and consider technical aspects in business decisions. With our degree programme, you can thus develop in a wide range of professional fields and realise your professional goals.
If you feel adventurous, you can also spend an entire semester abroad. You can study at a partner university and bring your achievements there into your studies. But even if you prefer to stay here, there are many interesting modules on offer at the RPTU that fit perfectly with your business studies.
Your Bachelor's thesis will then show whether you have learned to work scientifically. The Bachelor's thesis is written during the last semester of the degree programme. You have to present and defend your Bachelor's thesis in a colloquium.
In addition to the compulsory lectures, the course of study includes participation in a seminar. After a standard period of study of six semesters, the programme is completed with a Bachelor's thesis in economics.
The Bachelor's thesis then shows whether you have learned to work scientifically. The Bachelor's thesis is written within the last semester of the degree programme. A mobility window ensures that you can easily study one semester at a foreign partner university and have the achievements credited to you. If you don't want to go abroad, you can choose modules from the university's offer that fit the degree programme.
