We place special emphasis on giving you the necessary "tools" for your academic career. Everything starts with the "scientific basics and methods". We start with mathematics and statistics, which provide you with a solid foundation for many subjects in business administration, economics and computer science. Don't worry, we will help you master these subjects, which are often perceived as difficult, and teach you the joy of applying them to the world of business. But that's not all, because we also want to introduce you to the fascinating world of Data Science. Here you will learn how to extract valuable information from extensive amounts of data and derive practical recommendations for action for company management. With this knowledge, you will be able to master real challenges in the business world and develop innovative solutions.
To make your education holistic, we will also train you in the areas of scientific theory and soft skills. These skills are invaluable for your personal development and future career. You will not only be well prepared professionally, but also trained to become critical thinkers and empathetic team players.
The teaching of the fundamentals of business administration and economics through varied lectures, practical exercises and personal tutorials in the fundamentals of economics. Three important areas of business administration are covered:
Business Administration I: Accounting & Finance: Here you will learn the basics of cost and revenue accounting as well as financial reporting. Investment and financial accounting are also on the programme.
Business Administration II: Management: This area gives you an introduction to the management of companies. You will become familiar with topics such as organisation, strategy, marketing, human resources management and digital transformation.
Business Administration III: Intelligence, Logistics & Operations: This part is more mathematically and methodically oriented and includes an introduction to production control procedures, logistics, operations research and business informatics.
The two foundation modules in economics offer you a fascinating insight into how the economy works at different levels. In microeconomics, you'll get an overview of the structure of markets and how prices for goods are formed. You also learn how decisions are made by companies regarding their market entry and how this affects the overall economic welfare. Macroeconomics, on the other hand, teaches you the basics of national accounts. Here you learn how macroeconomic variables such as employment (unemployment) and inflation are determined. In addition, macroeconomic development patterns such as economic activity and growth are analysed.
Civil and company law form an important basis for entrepreneurial decisions. Here you will become familiar with the legal aspects that are of great importance for companies.
- Accounting & Finance
- Gestion
- Intelligence, Logistics & Operations
- Economics and Sustainability
In each of these profile areas you will find versatile modules that will help you to deepen the basics and expand your knowledge. You can expect interesting content that will enrich your academic path. Starting in the winter semester 2024/25, a fifth profile area, "Data Analytics", will be available for selection.
It will be particularly exciting in one of the profile areas, because here you will complete a seminar in which you will write a paper and give a presentation. This is a great opportunity to apply and reflect on your knowledge in a practical way.
In the technical part of the degree, you can expect a comprehensive and challenging education in the basics of computer science, which will prepare you for a career in the digital world and in the information society. This section of the degree offers a diverse range of lectures and practice-oriented internships that give you the opportunity to systematically explore the broad spectrum of computer science and deepen your skills.
In the lectures on the fundamentals of computer science systems, the focus is on digital technology and computer architecture. You will understand the basics of digital circuits and learn how modern computers are built and how they work. This understanding forms the basis for further studies in computer science.
Another important area is the lectures on information systems and communication systems. Here you will learn about the interaction of hardware and software, which makes it possible to build complex information systems and use them efficiently. You will also learn how modern communication systems are designed and how they function smoothly.
The basics of software development are also covered in detail. This includes lectures on the fundamentals of programming, which will give you the tools to develop software and solve problems algorithmically. you will design algorithms and learn about data structures, which are key concepts for efficient software development.
Another exciting aspect is the lecture on Web 2.0 technologies. Here you will be introduced to the world of modern internet technologies and learn the basics and techniques behind web applications. You will also become familiar with the services, security aspects and data protection issues on the Internet.
Work placements play a crucial role in your training. Here you can put the theoretical knowledge you have learned into practice and improve your programming skills. Through practice-oriented projects, you will learn to develop software and overcome technical challenges that you may encounter in professional practice.
In addition to the seminar paper, you will write two other academic papers, the study project and the Bachelor's thesis. The study project allows you to apply the theoretical knowledge from the lectures in real projects. This enables you to test and deepen your skills and knowledge in a concrete context. The study project is usually carried out in teamwork. Your Bachelor's thesis then shows whether you have learned to work scientifically. The Bachelor's thesis is written during the last semester of the degree programme. You have to present and defend your Bachelor's thesis in a colloquium. Either you write your study project in the field of information science and the Bachelor's thesis in the field of economics or vice versa.
In addition to the compulsory modules/lectures, the course of study includes participation in a seminar. In addition to the seminar paper, you will write two further academic papers, the study project and the Bachelor's thesis. The study project allows you to apply the theoretical knowledge from the lectures in real projects. This enables you to test and deepen your skills and knowledge in a concrete context. The study project is usually carried out in teamwork. Your Bachelor's thesis then shows whether you have learned to work scientifically.
