The Biophysics program is ideal for those of you who are interested in physics as well as biology and chemistry. The interdisciplinary bachelor's-master's program offers a unique education in the physical, chemical, and biological foundations of biophysics nationwide. The program is designed in such a way that graduates can find a perspective not only in biophysical professional fields, but also in physical, chemical or biological-pharmacological fields.
The study program is supported by the departments of physics, biology and chemistry. The investigation of interdisciplinary questions in biophysics often follows completely new approaches, which can only be developed in cooperation between these three areas. For this purpose, the study program teaches equivalent basics of the three natural sciences and also includes basics of mathematics and computer science.
In the first semester, the module Biophysics 1 introduces you to the interdisciplinary way of thinking in biophysics - modules on biophysics accompany you throughout the entire bachelor's program. Furthermore, in the first semester you can expect the introduction to inorganic chemistry, genetics, cell biology, plant physiology and the first half of the mathematics education.
In the second semester the classical physics education starts with the topics mechanics and heat, you learn the mathematical basics of physics and complete the mathematics education. In addition, the training in physical chemistry starts, which continues in the 3rd semester. Also in the 3rd semester, animal physiology awaits you from biology.
In the 4th semester, the physics education continues in electromagnetism and optics - the topics here are treated both experimentally and mathematically theoretically. In addition, the first part of the training in organic chemistry awaits you, which is continued in the 5th semester. In the last two semesters, another major field of chemistry awaits you: biochemistry - one module each. After the project work, the bachelor thesis concludes the program.
