Curriculum

What does the M.Sc. HRM & OB offer?

In the foundational courses of the master’s program, you will acquire fundamental core competencies in the areas of HRM and OB as well as in data science, empirical research methods, and people analytics. You will be equipped with the tools to evaluate the design of HRM and the behavior of organizations and their members from the perspective of different stakeholders. You will learn how to use data to analyze problems in the fields of HRM and OB and to develop evidence-based action recommendations to shape the future of work against the backdrop of economic, technological, and societal challenges.

In the elective area of the master’s program, you can set individual priorities and develop an individual profile with regard to future topics in business, technology, and society, and their interfaces with HRM and OB. You can choose two of the following five specializations:

• Specialization 1: Digitalization and HRM/OB
Here, you will deal with the basics of machine learning and learn how human-machine interfaces can be designed in a user-centric way and how data visualization can be used to analyze problems and find solutions. You will apply this know-how to develop solutions for practical business problems in the fields of HRM and OB.

• Specialization 2: Sustainability and HRM/OB
Here, you will study what sustainability means from a societal and economic perspective and what responsibility companies have towards society. You will explore the United Nations’ sustainable development goals. You will also learn how organizations can promote sustainable employee behaviors and how non-profit organizations can be managed.

• Specialization 3: Diversity and HRM/OB
Here, you will study various diversity characteristics in detail. You will learn how discrimination emerges and can be prevented and how organizations can promote diversity. You will explore how work processes and working conditions can be designed to promote and sustain employees’ health.

• Specialization 4: Lifelong Learning and HRM/OB
Here, you will learn how organizations can promote lifelong learning through personnel development and explore the importance of digitalization in this context. You will acquire skills that support your own successful professional development.

• Specialization 5: Ethics and HRM/OB
Here, you will receive an introduction to the history and systematics of ethics and explore morality and humanity as pillars of living together in diverse societies. This will help you understand how HRM can strengthen the ethical and moral responsibility of and cohesion within organizations.

In the “Keynotes on Human Resource Management and Organizational Behavior", you will gain insights into all five specializations as well as current challenges for HRM and OB. You will have the opportunity to discuss research and practical approaches to solving these challenges with experts from research and practice.

During your internship, you will have the opportunity to apply the knowledge you have acquired in practice and get to know potential professional fields and career opportunities.

In your master thesis, you can examine current practically relevant issues in HRM and OB from a scientific perspective.
