The lecture offers an introduction to the idea and history of Zionism and the founding of the state of Israel. It will focus in particular on the first Arab-Israeli war in 1948. The lecture will also discuss what has stood in the way of the often-cited "two-state solution" since the beginning of the conflict and which central ideological and personal continuities play a role in this.

The lecture will be given by Andreas Stahl, Head of the Counseling Center against Anti-Semitism at Universities in North Rhine-Westphalia. He has been active in political education for many years and is a founding member of the Society for Critical Education and a member of the Center for Anti-Semitism and Racism Studies (CARS) Aachen.
