The two-year Master's programme in Industrial Mathematics (Technomathematics) is a scientific research-oriented programme that establishes a close connection between mathematics, technology and computer science.
In terms of content, the training programme builds on the knowledge acquired in the bachelor's degree programme in Mathematics at RPTU in Kaiserslautern. In particular, it is assumed that theoretical and practical fundamental knowledge in mathematical modelling, in computer science & computational methods, in numerics and in the theory of ordinary differential equations has already been acquired within the scope of the Bachelor's degree programme, that two introductory lectures have been attended in the chosen field of specialisation and that in the chosen subsidiary subject the knowledge imparted in the Bachelor's degree programme in mathematics at RPTU in Kaiserslautern is available.
On the one hand, the education should enable graduates to successfully work together with engineers or natural scientists on solving technical problems in a team and to successfully apply mathematical methods and models. On the other hand, students are specifically introduced to current application-related mathematical research in the field of specialisation to be chosen in one of the areas of Modelling & Scientific Computing (PDE, Systems and Control Theory), Image Processing & Data Analysis or Biomathematics.
The programme is structured flexibly. It does not contain any compulsory subjects, but only prescribed scopes from certain subject catalogues. This enables you to enter application-oriented mathematical research according to your own abilities and inclinations.
In the chosen area of specialisation, the curriculum provides for 18 - 21 credit points (CP) in advanced lectures, reading courses amounting to 8 CP, a modelling seminar (7 CP) and the Master's thesis (30 CP). In addition, it includes achievements to the extent of 18 - 21 CP each in general mathematics, in computer science & computational methods as well as in the technical application subject plus a further mathematical seminar (3 CP).
After completing your studies, you will typically work in development departments in industry or in research and teaching in application-oriented mathematics or sub-areas of engineering sciences. You will work in a team with engineers and/or natural scientists to solve technical challenges and develop new technologies.
The demand for mathematicians has become so great that they can choose between various job offers to start their careers. The reason is that more and more services are in demand: Management consultants, software houses, research departments of large companies, banks and insurance companies are sweeping the market of workers with the appropriate training.
Prerequisite for the admission to the Master's programme is the successful completion of the Bachelor's examination in Mathematics at RPTU in Kaiserslautern or at least equivalent examination results that include a professionally qualifying university degree (e.g. Bachelor's or Diploma's degree).
As special admission requirements, you must have successfully passed examinations for the module "Introduction to Numerical Methods", for a module comprising the course "Introduction to Ordinary Differential Equations" (or for equivalent modules), for advanced modules from the subject areas "Modelling & Scientific Computing" or "Analysis & Stochastics" amounting to at least 18 credit points, as well as equivalent achievements to the modules to be completed in the Bachelor's degree programme in Mathematics at the RPTU in Kaiserslautern in one of the subsidiary subjects Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Physics.
In addition, further criteria will be used to check whether you are suitable for the programme in terms of subject and language, see

In order to enable students from other Bachelor's or Diploma degree programmes (in particular students with foreign degrees) to be academically at par with the Bachelor’s students from RPTU in Kaiserslautern, candidates might be provided with a conditional admission. This means that the candidates might have to attend additional courses (alongside their usual Master's lectures) and pass the corresponding examinations with a sufficient grade within the first academic year.
