The two-year Master's programme in Business Mathematics is a scientific research-oriented programme that establishes a close connection between mathematics, economics and computer science.
In terms of content, the training programme builds on the knowledge acquired in the bachelor's degree programme in mathematics at the RPTU in Kaiserslautern. In particular, it is assumed that you have already acquired theoretical and practical fundamental knowledge in mathematical modelling, in computer science & computational methods, in stochastics and in mathematical optimisation within the scope of the Bachelor's degree programme, that you have attended two introductory lectures in the chosen field of specialisation and that you have the knowledge of economics and business sciences imparted in the Bachelor's degree programme in Mathematics at RPTU in Kaiserslautern.
On the one hand, the education should enable you to assess the possibilities (but also the limits) of mathematical modelling for business, financial and economic issues, to develop efficient mathematical models and to implement them in practice. On the other hand, you will be introduced to current application-oriented mathematical research in the specialisation, which can be chosen from the fields of financial mathematics, optimisation or statistics.
The programme is structured flexibly. It does not contain any compulsory subjects, but only prescribed scopes from certain subject catalogues. This enables you to enter application-oriented mathematical research according to your own abilities and inclinations.
In the chosen area of specialisation, 18 - 21 credit points (CP) in advanced lectures, reading courses amounting to 12 CP, at least one of the two seminars (3 CP each), as well as the Master's thesis (30 CP) have to be completed. In addition, the curriculum includes 18 - 21 CP for lectures in in general mathematics, in computer science & computational methods as well as in economics & business sciences, each.
After completing your studies, you will typically work in the service sector, in planning departments in industry or in research and teaching in business mathematics or economics.
The demand for mathematicians has become so great that they can choose between various job offers to start their careers. The reason is that more and more services are in demand: Management consultants, software houses, research departments of large companies, banks and insurance companies are sweeping the market of workers with the appropriate training.

Prerequisite for the admission to the Master's programme is the successful completion of the Bachelor's examination in Business Mathematics or in Mathematics at RPTU in Kaiserslautern or at least equivalent examination results that include a professionally qualifying university degree (e.g. Bachelor's or Diploma's degree).
As special admission requirements, you must have successfully passed examinations for the modules "Stochastic Methods" and "Linear and Network Programming" (or equivalent modules), for advanced modules from the subject area "Optimisation & Stochastics" with a total of at least 18 credit points as well as equivalent achievements to the modules to be completed in the Bachelor's degree programme in Business Mathematics at RPTU in Kaiserslautern in Economics & Business Sciences.
In addition, further criteria will be used to check whether you are suitable for the programme in terms of subject and language, see

In order to enable students from other Bachelor's or Diploma degree programmes (in particular students with foreign degrees) to be academically at par with the Bachelor’s students from RPTU in Kaiserslautern, candidates might be provided with a conditional admission. This means that the candidates might have to attend additional courses (alongside their usual Master's lectures) and pass the corresponding examinations with a sufficient grade within the first academic year.
The StudierendenServiceCenter offers a variety of consultation and information all around studying at the RPTU.
