The main educational goal of the teaching-related Bachelor's/Master's programme in mathematics is the ability to plan and implement qualified, modern mathematics teaching. As a future teacher, you should be able to convey mathematical knowledge in a reflective and lively manner and also understand how to make mathematics understandable in its function as a universal tool. In addition, you should be able to awaken mathematical interest in your future students and promote mathematical skills.

This requires a solid, comprehensive academic education in combination with the acquisition of well-founded subject didactic knowledge, which is applied and practically implemented in the school internships that accompany the entire study programme.

Building on the knowledge and competences acquired in the Bachelor's degree programme in teaching, in the Master's degree programme for the teaching profession at Realschulen Plus you will acquire further knowledge in individual areas of pure and applied mathematics as well as the subject didactics of mathematics. If you write your Master's thesis in Mathematics, you will learn in this framework to familiarise yourself with new issues in the subject and to solve them independently using scientific methods.

Curriculum

The teacher training programmes consist of a Bachelor's and a Master's programme. The curricular standards governing the study programme guarantee a high standard of subject-specific knowledge and subject-specific didactics. Within the framework of both degree programmes, you will complete a total of four school internships (https://schulpraktika.rlp.de/ ) during the lecture-free periods.

In addition to the 90 credit points (CP) acquired in the three university semesters, 30 CP from the preparatory service or corresponding supplementary credits are also credited to complete the Master's programme for the teaching profession at Realschulen Plus. After successful completion of the M.Ed. you will receive the "First State Examination".

The curriculum of the Master's (part) programme in Mathematics for the teaching profession at Realschulen Plus builds on the knowledge and competences acquired in the teaching-related Bachelor's programme (with the corresponding teaching profession-related focus). The advanced subject didactic courses are mostly elective courses, and at the subject level you can also choose from an extensive, broad range of pure and applied mathematics from the subject areas represented at the department.

The Master's programme for the teaching profession at Realschulen Plus requires a Bachelor of Education in which you have already studied two subjects and the subject Educational Science with the corresponding school-specific focus.

At RPTU in Kaiserslautern, you can combine the subject mathematics for the teaching profession at Realschulen Plus with the following subjects:
Biology, Chemistry, Geography, Computer Science, Physics, Social Studies, Physical Education.

In addition, you can choose from other subjects that you can study in Saarbrücken or Trier as a combination via the Südwestverbund. For more information, please contact the advisory service at the ZfL.

In the teacher training programme, as in almost all other degree programmes, it is possible to gain experience abroad. Be it studying abroad for a semester or even doing one of the orienting internships abroad. There are some possibilities and even often funding in the form of a scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
