The six-semester programme is an interdisciplinary mathematics degree programme that integrates relevant courses in economics & business sciences and computer science. The basis of the study programme is a sound fundamental education in (applied) mathematics. Solid knowledge of mathematical modelling and its practical implementation is imparted. In designing this degree programme, the Department of Mathematics has taken into account the modern understanding of mathematics as a fundamental science and as a key technology.

Curriculum

The first two years of study offer a solid fundamental mathematical education with a focus on applied mathematics - supplemented by an interdisciplinary and practice-oriented component with courses in computer science, economics & business sciences and mathematical modelling. At an early stage, students have the opportunity to work in teams to solve smaller project tasks. The third year of study serves to develop a business mathematics focus in the area of optimisation and/or stochastics (financial mathematics, statistics). In addition to introductory courses at Master's level, a practical training / mathematical internship and the Bachelor's thesis are scheduled.

We also offer the mathematical courses of the first year of study as part of the early entry programme FiMS in distance learning (see: https://math.rptu.de/fims ). In addition, the programme can be designed in such a way that there is a high degree of permeability to the Bachelor's degree programme in mathematics (with economics & business sciences chosen as subsidiary subject).

In industry and business, graduates of mathematics degree programmes are valued for the fact that, due to their sound education, they are able to independently familiarise themselves with complex fields of work and that they can demonstrate general job-qualifying skills such as the ability to abstract, special analytical skills or creativity.

The demand for (business) mathematicians has now become so great that they can choose between different job offers to start their careers. The reason is that more and more services are in demand: Management consultants, software houses, research departments of large companies, banks and insurance companies are sweeping the market of workers with the appropriate training.

At RPTU in Kaiserslautern, the consecutive
