Practical and with the best career prospects: At RPTU, students can train for the teaching profession in physics at grammar schools at the Landau campus.
How is the study program structured?
The program is divided into a polyvalent bachelor's degree with a standard period of study of 6 semesters and the master's degree that builds on this with a standard period of study of 4 semesters. In the case of the polyvalent bachelor's degree, students do not make the final decision for a particular type of school until after four semesters. The master's program in physics is then school-specific.
What is special about the degree program?
At RPTU in Landau, student teachers in physics are basically trained in courses that are exclusively aimed at teacher candidates. Accordingly, in contrast to other university locations, the career goal of a teaching profession in physics is always the focus of joint activities for both teachers and students. The connection between subject-specific and subject-didactic training components is particularly intensive in Landau. This is also achieved by integrating school practice into the university education. Already in the first semesters, students sit in on physics lessons and give their first teaching sequences under the guidance of subject teachers. In this way, subject-specific and subject-didactic skills are practically applied, deepened and reflected upon in a manageable environment. In the Master's program in particular, students receive intensive supervision in small groups.
What knowledge and skills should I bring with me?
In addition to an interest in scientific issues, students should be willing to work with children and adolescents in their future careers and to support them in their development into independent personalities.
Do I have to complete an internship?
The following mandatory internships must be completed at schools during the lecture-free period:
Orienting internships (35 days)
In-depth internships (30 days)
Specialized internships (40 days)
What are the career prospects?
The chances of employment in the teaching profession with physics as a subject are excellent.
How can I find out if the program is right for me?
At the beginning of the semester, the orientation days for first-year students are held at the Landau campus. High school students can participate in all events, just like in a trial study.
What are the admission requirements?
The prerequisite for admission to the BA program is the Allgemeine Hochschulreife (Abitur) or a previous education recognized as equivalent.
The prerequisite for admission to the MA program is a corresponding BA degree in physics.
