Within the first two weeks of your stay in Kaiserslautern, you will have to register as a resident at the Municipal Registration Office/Einwohnermeldeamt in Kaiserslautern. You will have to appear in person at the Civic Center/ Bürgercenter, which is located in the city center and provide your personal information. You will also have to show your rental agreement, or at least the address of your current residence and passport.

After having registered in Germany with an address, you will automatically receive a letter from the Federal Central Tax Office (Bundeszentralamt für Steuern) with your personal tax identification number (IdNr)/Steuerliche Identifikationsnummer.
