Basic subject:
The basic subject of environmental chemistry combines fundamentals of chemistry and environmental science. Graduates can recall the basics, principles and methods in environmental chemistry; understand the functions of soil, water and air in environmental systems from a chemical point of view and make references to the other environmental science disciplines; classify substances using appropriate methods and are able to obtain and apply factual and subject-related information from them; analyze chemical substances by means of environmental analytical methods and derive conclusions for their influence on the biosphere; evaluate the effect and toxicity of environmentally relevant groups of substances as well as develop hypotheses on environmentally relevant questions and create independent solutions from them.
Elective subject:
Graduates of the Environmental Chemistry elective are familiar with selected transformations of organic and inorganic compounds in the laboratory and in the environment. They know mechanisms of dispersion, transformation and the effects of chemical substances on the animate and inanimate environment and understand the basic environmental chemical processes in aquatic and terrestrial systems and in the atmosphere. They can identify relationships between chemical phenomenon and mechanism and deduce the fate of important organic and inorganic substances in the environment from their structure.

Elective:
UCW-01: General and Inorganic Chemistry
UCW-02: Organic Chemistry
UCW-03: Environmental Chemistry
The basic subject Environmental Chemistry can not be studied in combination with the elective subject Environmental Chemistry. It is recommended that the basic environmental chemistry major be studied in combination with a science major or mathematics.

Advice on the Interdisciplinary Profile Program: ksb-profilbereich@rptu.de
The conception of the study program enables the equal study of two basic subjects and offers the possibility to set individual focal points through an interdisciplinary profile area. In the course of their studies, students choose an elective subject, attend central key competence courses and complete at least one internship in order to get to know possible professional fields.
Due to the many possible combinations, each two-subject bachelor's degree program is unique and represents an individual path into academia and the professional world. In order not to lose the overview in the abundance of possibilities, the students are accompanied and advised from the beginning by the team of the profile area. This team supports the planning of the course of studies and the individual setting of priorities by means of coaching, workshops and personal advisory services.

The StudierendenServiceCenter offers a variety of consultation and information all around studying at the RPTU.
