Transition from Bachelor's to Master's degree
Campus Kaiserslautern
If you are enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program at RPTU and would like to switch to a Master's degree program, you must apply to transfer to the Master's degree program via our application portal.
The documents you need to submit with your application depend on the degree program you wish to apply for. Please read the relevant Master's examination regulations or contact the student advisory service in the relevant department.
The application must be submitted with the required documents in the application portal within the application deadlines.
In principle, a first professionally qualifying university degree (usually a Bachelor's degree) is required for admission to a Master's degree course. In addition, admission to a Master's degree course may be subject to further special admission requirements.
In some departments, an aptitude assessment procedure is carried out to check the professional and personal aptitude for admission to the Master's degree course.
Detailed information on the admission requirements can be found in the respective Master's examination regulations or can be obtained from the student advisory service in the relevant department.
There are also Master's degree programs at RPTU with restricted admission. In these cases, a selection procedure is carried out after checking the subject-related aptitude if more applicants meet the admission requirements for the Master's program than there are places available. You can find out whether your desired degree program is an admission-free or admission-restricted Master's degree program in the overview of degree programs.
According to Section 19 (3) of the Higher Education Act and the provisions of the respective Master's examination regulations or the General Master's examination regulations, in exceptional cases the Master's degree program can already be started if only a certain number of ECTS have to be completed by the time the Bachelor's degree program is successfully completed. Whether and under what conditions double enrolment is possible can be found in the respective Master's examination regulations or the General Master's Examination Regulations.
If you receive benefits under the Federal Training Assistance Act (BAföG), you should contact the BAföG and Scholarships Department for information on the effects of double enrolment on your BAföG entitlement.
For enrolment in both the Bachelor's and Master's degree programs (“double enrolment”), an application must be submitted via our application portal within the application deadlines.
Upon receipt of your application, the Examinations Office will check whether sufficient credit points have been earned as prerequisites for double enrollment and will forward this information to the Registrar's Office for further processing.
In the event that relevant certificates are still outstanding at the time of application, these can be taken into account for double enrollment, provided that they have been completed up to and including the start of lectures in the semester in which double enrollment is planned. Certificates and achievements completed after this date can no longer be considered. This also applies to any necessary supplementary examinations. In the event that you are eligible for double enrolment, you will receive a letter informing you of the deadline by which you must provide proof of completion of the Bachelor's degree program.

Please apply for a change of your degree programme via our online application portal.
Double enrollment, also known as additional enrollment, can only be applied for one semester. An application for an additional enrolment in the teaching degree programme must also be submitted via our application portal.
Please note, that your Bachelor´s thesis must be registered by the Examination Office by the end of the current semester (31.03. / 30.04.). Failure to register will result in the cancellation of your enrolment in the Master's degree programme retroactively.
It is essential to complete all the outstanding courses of the Bachelor's programme during the double enrollment (by 31.03. / 30.04.) and to ensure its final grade by 30th April or 31st October at the latest.
The university does not offer all courses and examinations in every semester, nor does it offer them without overlapping with other compulsory courses. In accordance with the statutory provisions, exmatriculation from the Master's degree programme is also carried out ex officio in these cases.
The status of the double enrollment can be viewed in KLIPS (see re-registration lock 36: transfer BA-MA). Alternatively, the transfer can be recognised by the change of status of your application in the applicant portal. Please note that a separate notification will not be sent.
For more information please read the relevant Master's examination regulations or contact the student advisory service in the respective department.
If you have already completed your Bachelor teaching degree programme, you can submit an application for the Master's degree programme via our online application portal.
