German
as a foreign language
The German language belongs to the West Germanic branch of the Indo-European language family and is spoken by over 100 million people as their mother tongue, mainly in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and parts of Belgium, Luxembourg and Liechtenstein. It is one of the most widely spoken languages in Europe and serves as the official language of the European Union. German has a rich literary and philosophical tradition, and figures such as Goethe, Schiller and Kant have made an important contribution to world culture. The language is known for its complex grammar, including capitalization and compound word formation, as well as its precision and expressiveness. Standard German (Hochdeutsch) is used in education, the media and formal communication, while numerous regional dialects - such as Bavarian, Swabian and Saxon - are spoken informally. German has influenced scientific, technical and philosophical vocabulary worldwide and continues to be a key language in science, engineering and international business.
A placement test is a prerequisite for participation in German courses from level A2.
The results must be sent by email to sprachkurse-LD[at]rptu.de at the same time as the course registration in KLIPS.
