Zuzana Storchová elected to EMBO
Zuzana Storchová, Professor of Molecular Genetics in the Department of Biology at RPTU Kaiserslautern-Landau, has been elected as a member of EMBO. She is among this year’s group of 71 EMBO Members and Associate Members who, in recognition of their contributions to the life sciences, now join the global community of more than 2,200 leading researchers.
“It is a pleasure to welcome the new EMBO Members and Associate Members. Their election celebrates their achievements and creativity. By contributing their unique perspectives and experiences, they will greatly strengthen the network of leading life scientists who are shaping the field,” says EMBO Director Fiona Watt.
Collectively, the EMBO Members influence the direction of the life sciences and strengthen research communities in Europe and beyond. New members are selected through an annual nomination and election process, ensuring that EMBO Members continue to represent diverse research areas and emerging trends.
Zuzana Storchová contributes her expertise in the study of chromosomal instability and DNA maintenance errors. Chromosomes carry a cell's genetic information. Instability in chromosomes, as well as errors in transmitting this information to daughter cells, can contribute to the development of diseases such as cancer.
"It is a great privilege to join the EMBO community. This recognition reflects the dedication, hard work, and creativity of the many students and postdoctoral researchers who have contributed to our work on aneuploidy and genome maintenance over the years. Progress in this field has benefited enormously from interdisciplinary collaborations. The collaborative environment fostered by EMBO and its strong commitment to advancing molecular biology and promoting young scientists are truly inspiring, and I am delighted to be able to contribute to this mission. I look forward to many inspiring encounters with the EMBO community in the years to come,” says Zuzana Storchová.
The EMBO Members' Meeting, a formal welcome and celebration of the new members, will take place in Heidelberg, Germany, from 30 September – 2 October 2026. A directory listing all members with affiliations and subject areas is available online.
