Active participation in the development of a joint quality management system
The fusion to form the Rheinland-Pfälzische Technische Universität (RPTU) brought with it significant changes, including in the area of quality management. The subsystems of RPTU in Kaiserslautern and Landau are currently being continued in their existing form. At the same time, a new joint QMS for teaching and learning is being developed, which will replace the two subsystems from 2026.
In addition to the application of mandatory instruments and measures, the development of a common quality culture and an ongoing quality discussion are crucial to achieving this objective. An effective QMS requires a university-specific understanding of quality.
Our ambition is therefore to directly support the relevant stakeholders, from university management representatives to students, in developing a common understanding of quality across all locations. Suitable evaluation and participation formats should help to highlight differences and similarities in the stakeholders' understanding of quality and promote a discussion on quality towards a common understanding.
We are pleased to invite you to visit our website to find out about the progress and developments of the joint RPTU QMS for teaching and learning. If you would like to make a statement, you are welcome to do so here.

Senate Committee Quality in Studies and Teaching
In accordance with Section 4 of the Partial Basic Regulations for the Quality Assurance System, the Senate of RPTU Kaiserslautern-Landau has set up the advisory Senate Committee Quality in Studies and Teaching for internal quality discussions on the quality management system in studies and teaching.
We focus on targeted qualification profiles that encompass both subject-specific and interdisciplinary skills and whose development is supported in the best possible way by skills-oriented teaching and advisory practices. On the basis of scientific thinking and action, teaching particularly promotes self-learning skills and critical thinking as a foundation for lifelong learning. Interdisciplinary learning, teaching and working in research, teaching and studies are highly valued in our face-to-face and distance learning courses. Our graduates have learned to develop different approaches to solving technical and interdisciplinary problems, to justify and apply them accordingly and to check their viability and plausibility.
Our central task as a university in the area of teaching and learning is to educate students so that they are able to contribute to solving societal challenges through democratic, responsible action. Students are partners in this and are involved in all processes. We live a culture of exchange and cooperation, meet students at eye level and, in addition to formal participation in committees, actively encourage them to participate in the design and further development of studies and teaching at all levels, provide incentives and have a stable network of contact persons.
We enable internationally oriented studying and teaching and strengthen the mobility of all students and teaching staff: We prepare students for a globalized job market, for example through a culturally diverse campus life, our own foreign language offerings, teaching and learning content geared towards this and national and international networks with partners from science, business and culture. We also promote international networking through stays abroad for students and employees. Our teaching is attractive for international students thanks to a diverse range of courses and intensive supervision.
For us, successful teaching is closely linked to the potential and commitment of people in all areas of work and at all levels. We therefore accompany, support and encourage students, lecturers and employees in all phases of their lives and work in a needs- and goal-oriented manner. We actively promote further training opportunities for all employees in specialist, interdisciplinary and didactic areas. 3/3 Furthermore, based on the existing tradition of both locations, we offer lifelong learning, academic education and continuing education alongside undergraduate teaching, thereby consolidating our leading position in distance learning.
In the further development and implementation of study and teaching formats, we make the best possible use of the potential offered by the methodological diversity of face-to-face teaching and digital formats. Digitalization in teaching contributes to greater flexibility in terms of time and location and enables greater individualization of study courses. Digital approaches offer expanded opportunities to support students with heterogeneous needs, help to overcome physical distance, facilitate personal interaction and enable the implementation of cross-location teaching and learning at RPTU. The acquisition of skills to act responsibly in a digitally shaped society and working world - also against the backdrop of developments in the field of artificial intelligence - is an important part of the courses offered by our university. Administrative processes are aligned with the requirements of teaching and learning processes. Transparency, data sovereignty and data economy are of great importance.
Our teaching and learning programs take into account the principles and goals of sustainable development as defined by the United Nations. Teachers address these principles and goals in an appropriate manner. The aim is for students and teachers to recognize the connection to the sustainability of their own actions and thus be able to make responsible decisions.
To ensure successful teaching, we utilize the potential of diversity with regard to the experiences, interests and biographical backgrounds of students and teaching staff. We ensure equal opportunities at all levels and offer support for families, people with special challenges such as relatives in need of care or students with mental or physical disabilities and provide contact points for personal advice. We are committed to accessibility in order to provide all members with access to studying and teaching. Respectful interaction with one another and the openness to constantly question one's own knowledge and positions are prerequisites for good teaching that is independent of the age, gender identity, social or ethnic background, disability, religion, ideology or sexual orientation of those involved.
