Lecture series Making of Pfalz; lecture by Wilhelm Kreutz: The Palatinate from the French Revolution to the Hambach Festival
Against the backdrop of the French period (until 1815), the region later known as the "Palatinate" became the most politically progressive region in the German Confederation. The opposition articulated itself strongly in the Bavarian Parliament but also outside. In addition to economic reforms, they demanded the granting of fundamental rights and freedoms as well as the creation of a German nation. In 1832, the protests reached their peak at the "Hambach Festival", the first mass rally of the German democracy movement.
