Conference "Power(-)words! Political Communication and Democracy 2025"

"Volk", "Heimat", "Remigration", "biodeutsch" - right-wing populists are trying to linguistically shift the boundaries of our thoughts, opinions and decisions. Word by word and sentence by sentence, resentment is being promoted and radical ideas are being made acceptable in order to discredit, undermine and ultimately undermine the cornerstones of the democratic social order. This development calls for a critical awareness of the use of language in educational work and political communication. After all, the ability to reflect is a fundamental competence for responsible participation in socio-political debates and democratic decisions. An interdisciplinary team in the department of Cultural and Social Sciences at RPTU is therefore focusing on political communication in democracy, combining historical perspectives with insights into current manifestations. The interdisciplinary conference on November 6 and 7 will bring students, academics, interested schools, teachers and pedagogical professionals from extracurricular institutions of political education into a dialog in order to sharpen their own judgment and take a critical look at the use of language in political action today.
