Science meets technology:
Bioengineering and chemical engineering combine scientific disciplines such as chemistry, biology and physics with technical know-how. The aim is to make chemical and biological processes technically usable - for example for the production of medicines, water treatment or the development of sustainable materials.
The focus is on the question: how can scientific findings be translated into industrial applications? For example: How does an active ingredient in the laboratory become a drug that can be safely produced in large quantities? Or: How can microorganisms be used to produce biodegradable plastics?
During your studies, you will learn the scientific fundamentals of these processes - and at the same time how production facilities are planned, controlled and improved. This will prepare you perfectly for tasks in research, development and production - for example in the chemical industry, biotechnology or environmental technology.
The Bachelor's degree program provides you with a broad scientific and technical education: You will attend lectures and exercises in mathematics, chemistry, physics and biology. At the same time, you will learn about engineering fundamentals such as thermodynamics and process engineering - supplemented by practical laboratory courses in which you will test typical processes yourself.
From the fifth semester onwards, you can deepen your studies in a targeted manner: In compulsory elective modules, you set your own focus, for example in the fields of chemistry, process engineering or mechanical engineering. With the research project and the final Bachelor's thesis, you will apply your knowledge to a specific problem and learn the basics of scientific work.
An internship in industry is NO longer required for admission to the degree program from WS 24/25!
