In the interdisciplinary master's program in bioengineering and chemical engineering, basic knowledge from engineering and the natural sciences is further deepened. Graduates are ideally prepared for activities involving the design of chemical and bioprocess engineering processes and the associated plants. Parallel to this, the training takes place in a practice-oriented manner within the framework of research and development projects. Typical employers can be found in the chemical, pharmaceutical and food industries, for example. The basic scientific training is ideal preparation for work in research and development. The degree qualifies the student for a doctorate.
The interdisciplinary nature of the subject is taken into account in that one major must be selected from each of the departments of mechanical and process engineering and from the field of chemistry. Here, bioprocess engineering, technical chemistry and catalysis, physical chemistry and bio-analytics, mechanical process engineering, thermal process engineering and thermodynamics and process design are available for selection. Within the scope of elective modules amounting to 20 LPs, there is also the possibility to further deepen one's own interests. A research thesis as well as the master thesis deepen the knowledge of scientific work.
