Content

Materials science and materials engineering are an important cross-sectional topic in almost all areas of modern mechanical engineering. From the selection of materials for components in machine, vehicle and plant construction, to the processing of composite materials in aircraft construction, to materials testing and the evaluation of material failure - the methods and skills taught can be applied in current research, at authorities and testing agencies, as well as in industry. Basic orientation and independence from industry ensure the best prospects on the job market. The degree qualifies the student for a doctorate.

Curriculum

The compulsory modules Fatigue Strength of Metallic Materials I, Fatigue and Fatigue Life, Plasticity of Metallic Materials, Failure Science, Plastics Processing, Joining Processes for Composite Materials, Methodology of Materials Selection and the Laboratory Special Methods of Materials Testing comprise a total of 24 credit points. A further 24 credit points are accumulated in elective modules, of which 18 credit points are from a selection specially adapted to the course of study. The project work (12 LP) and the master's thesis (30 LP) can be used to demonstrate the ability to work scientifically.
