We place special emphasis on giving you the necessary "tools" for your academic career. Everything starts with the "scientific basics and methods". We start with mathematics and statistics, which provide you with a solid foundation for many subjects in business administration, economics and electrical engineering. Don't worry, we will help you master these subjects, which are often perceived as difficult, and teach you the joy of applying them in the business world. But that's not all, because we also want to introduce you to the fascinating world of Data Science. Here you will learn how to extract valuable information from extensive amounts of data and derive practical recommendations for action for company management. With this knowledge, you will be able to master real challenges in the business world and develop innovative solutions.
To make your education holistic, we will also train you in the areas of scientific theory and soft skills. These skills are invaluable for your personal development and future career. Not only will you be well prepared professionally, but you will also be trained to become critical thinkers and empathetic team players.
The teaching of the fundamentals of business administration and economics through varied lectures, practical exercises and personal tutorials in the fundamentals of economics. Three important areas of business administration are covered:
Business Administration I: Accounting & Finance: Here you will learn the basics of cost and revenue accounting as well as financial reporting. Investment and financial accounting are also on the programme.
Business Administration II: Management: This area gives you an introduction to the management of companies. You will become familiar with topics such as organisation, strategy, marketing, human resources management and digital transformation.
Business Administration III: Intelligence, Logistics & Operations: This part is more mathematically and methodically oriented and includes an introduction to production control procedures, logistics, operations research and business informatics.
The two foundation modules in economics offer you a fascinating insight into how the economy works at different levels. In microeconomics, you'll get an overview of the structure of markets and how prices for goods are formed. You also learn how decisions are made by companies regarding their market entry and how this affects the overall economic welfare. Macroeconomics, on the other hand, teaches you the basics of national accounts. Here you learn how macroeconomic variables such as employment (unemployment) and inflation are determined. In addition, macroeconomic development patterns such as economic activity and growth are analysed.
Civil and company law form an important basis for entrepreneurial decisions. Here you will become familiar with the legal aspects that are of great importance for companies.
These exciting modules will provide you with a comprehensive understanding of business issues and prepare you to make informed decisions in the business world. The knowledge you acquire will help you to master the complex challenges of the business world and become successful entrepreneurs or experts in the field of economics.
Building on this, you have the opportunity to choose your three specialisations from four exciting profile areas - this means you can shape your studies entirely according to your interests! And within these areas, you have even more options to choose from in order to deepen your knowledge of the topics that fascinate you the most.
Take a look at the profile areas we offer that build on the basics:
- Accounting & Finance
- Management, Intelligence
- Intelligence, Logistics & Operations
- Economics and Sustainability
In each of these profile areas you will find versatile modules that will help you to deepen the basics and expand your knowledge. You can expect interesting content that will enrich your academic path. Starting in the winter semester 2024/25, a fifth profile area, "Data Analytics", will be available for selection.
It will be particularly exciting in one of the profile areas, because here you will complete a seminar in which you write a paper and give a presentation. This is a great opportunity to apply and reflect on your knowledge in a practical way.
In the technical part of the degree programme, you will receive a comprehensive and solid education in the fundamentals of electrical engineering, which will prepare you for a wide range of exciting topics. This training is made possible by a variety of lectures and practice-oriented exercises that give you the opportunity to actively apply and deepen your knowledge.
In the lectures on experimental physics, you will become familiar with the fundamental principles and laws of physics, which serve as a solid foundation for understanding electrical engineering. The lectures on the fundamentals of electrical engineering provide you with the basic knowledge of electrical circuits, electrical fields and magnetism, while electrical measurement technology introduces you to the methods and instruments for the precise measurement of electrical quantities.
Another important part of the programme is the introduction to information processing, which gives you basic knowledge about data processing and computer technology. The lectures on signals and systems give you insights into the analysis and processing of signals, an essential aspect of modern electrical engineering. Last but not least, you will receive a sound education in the fundamentals of electrical power engineering, which will give you an understanding of energy generation, transmission and use.
The degree also offers you the opportunity to deepen your interest and expertise in specific areas through electives. Electives cover a wide range of topics, including Experimental Physics II for more advanced study, the web-based Introduction to Programming for digital literacy, Electronics and Digital Engineering for more intensive study of electronic circuits and devices, the Electrical Engineering Fundamentals Lab for hands-on experience, and Electronics II for advanced knowledge in electronics.
Overall, the technical part of the degree offers a comprehensive and versatile education in electrical engineering that prepares you for a career in the electrical and electronics industry, the energy industry, communication technology and many other exciting fields. Your acquired knowledge and practical skills will enable you to develop innovative solutions for the technological challenges of our time and to contribute to the further development of this important discipline.
In addition to the seminar paper, you will write two other academic papers, the study project and the Bachelor's thesis. The study project allows you to apply the theoretical knowledge from the lectures in real projects. This enables you to test and deepen your skills and knowledge in a concrete context. The study project is usually carried out in teamwork. Your Bachelor's thesis then shows whether you have learned to work scientifically. The Bachelor's thesis is written during the last semester of the degree programme. You have to present and defend your Bachelor's thesis in a colloquium. Either you write your study project in the field of electrical engineering and the Bachelor's thesis in the field of economics or vice versa.
In addition to the compulsory modules/lectures, the course of study includes participation in a seminar. In addition to the seminar paper, you will write two further academic papers, the study project and the Bachelor's thesis.
Master's programme: Industrial Engineering and Management, specialising in Electrical Engineering
--------
The Master's programme is generally free of admission. The admission requirement for the Master's programme is, in addition to a university entrance qualification, the successfully completed Bachelor's programme in Industrial Engineering and Management at the RPTU Kaiserslautern - Landau. The final grade of the Bachelor's degree programme is not decisive according to the current admission regulations. A successfully completed degree programme recognised as equivalent by the examination board also fulfils this requirement. In addition, English language skills at C1 level - for example, through successful participation in the university's own language courses - must be proven.
