An important pillar of the Master's programme is research-based learning with seminars, a research project and the Master's thesis.
The Master's programme builds on the subject areas already known from the Bachelor's programmes and deepens the technical and economic contents in roughly equal proportions of the curriculum. The chosen technical specialisation is retained. Thanks to the wide range of options, however, each student is free to choose an individual course of study.
Thanks to the wide range of options, however, each student is free to put together an individual course of study according to his or her interests and career plans.
In terms of methodology, the Master's programme at the Department of Business and Economics takes into account the students' personal responsibility and independence by switching to research-based learning.
The focus here is on independent research work in the context of a seminar paper, a research project and the final research project and the final Master's thesis.

Industrial engineers are in demand in many industries thanks to their interdisciplinary skills. Master's graduates are particularly recommended for demanding tasks in specialist and management positions within business and industry. In addition, a Master's degree entitles graduates to a doctorate and in this way opens up the possibility of pursuing a career in science.
As a graduate of the Master's programme in Industrial Engineering and Management with a specialisation in chemistry, you have a diverse range of career prospects. Your combination of technical understanding and business knowledge enables you to work in various fields and industries. Here are some potential career prospects:
Process and production management: You could work in optimising production processes and increasing efficiency in the chemical industry. This involves analysing processes, identifying bottlenecks and developing solutions to improve production.
Quality management: The chemical industry attaches great importance to quality assurance and control. You could work in this area to ensure that products meet the required standards and that quality is consistently high.
Research and development: With your technical and business background, you could work in research and development departments of companies. This involves the development of new products, the optimisation of existing products or the search for innovative solutions.
Supply chain management: Logistics and supply chain management are crucial for the smooth flow of product delivery. You could work in planning, coordinating and optimising supply chains.
Environmental and sustainability management: In times of increasing environmental awareness, environmental management plays an important role. You could work to implement sustainable practices and technologies in the chemical industry.
Sales and marketing: Your understanding of technology and business could benefit you in the sales and marketing of chemical products. You could sell technical products and solutions and help customers implement them.
Project management: You could use your project management skills in large projects in the chemical industry, be it the introduction of new plants, the development of new products or the implementation of innovations.
A business internship of 12 weeks is required for your Master's programme. You should note:
The practical phase must take place in an economic context, whereby the exact areas of application are flexible.
The working hours should be at least 20 hours per week. A 40-hour week does not affect the number of weeks.
You have the possibility to complete the internship in different companies.
The search for suitable internships is your responsibility.
This internship is an integral part of your studies and should be completed before graduation.
You might be wondering what added value a business internship can have during your WI studies? Let me show you why this experience is so rewarding:
Experiencing knowledge in action: You have acquired theoretical basics during your WI studies. An internship allows you to apply this knowledge in real business scenarios and see how theory works in practice.
Diverse insights: The world of business administration is wide-ranging, from marketing to finance to corporate strategy. During your internship, you can explore different departments and find out which area appeals to you the most.
Clarity for your professional future: If you still feel uncertain about your professional path, an internship can give you clarity. You will find out whether your ideas match reality.
Make contacts: During your internship, you will have the opportunity to make valuable contacts in the industry. These contacts can help you later on in your career.
Strengthen your CV: Employers value practical experience. An internship can add a special touch to your CV and increase your chances in future job applications.
Develop soft skills: In addition to technical knowledge, you can also improve your communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills - skills that are in demand in any career.
The possibility of being taken on: Many companies see internships as a stepping stone to future permanent positions. Get involved during your internship, as this could open the door to long-term job opportunities.
