Students from the teacher training-related B/M degree programmes can study an "extension subject" (from the fifth Bachelor's semester). The aim here is to acquire the academic qualification to teach an additional subject based on the competences already acquired in the study of the other two subjects. Proof of this qualification is provided by passing a selected subset of the study modules provided for the study of the subject in the B/M degree programmes (specified by the Curricular Standards of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate).

Curriculum

Analogous to the study of mathematics in the teaching-related Bachelor's degree programme, the curriculum builds on the fundamentals of mathematics (linear algebra and analysis) as well as subject didactic fundamentals. The curriculum also includes introductory courses in Algebraic Structures, Geometry, Stochastics (or Practical Mathematics) and in the Didactics of Elementary Algebra and Number Range Extensions as well as Geometry for all teaching-related specialisations. In addition, it is compulsory to complete the cross-sectional module from the respective Master's degree programme.

If the focus on teaching at grammar schools is chosen, the curriculum also includes further courses of choice from the area of pure mathematics (subject module A from the Master's degree programme for teaching at grammar schools).
