Digital Process Engineering (DPE) is a four-semester Master's degree program aimed at Bachelor's graduates with a solid background in Chemical and Process Engineering or Environmental Process Engineering and a strong interest in the digital implementation of process engineering problems.
The basis of this Master's degree course is chemical process engineering, which deals with transforming raw materials and energy into products using chemical, mechanical, and biological processes. The term process engineering should not be confused with process technology, which is concerned with control, automation, and optimization of production processes and is NOT the focus of the Digital Process Engineering Master's degree course.
The degree program consists of bridge modules (compulsory elective area 1), compulsory modules, focus areas (compulsory elective area 2), elective modules and the Master's thesis.
As this is an interdisciplinary degree program, the bridging modules ensure that applicants with diverse Bachelor's degrees are brought to a uniform level of knowledge in the essential fundamentals. The bridging modules are selected individually in collaboration with a mentor.
Students with a suitable seven-semester or very suitable six-semester Bachelor's degree can replace all or part of the bridging semester with an internship.
The compulsory modules from the field of Computer Science with an interface to Mechanical Engineering lay the foundations for scientific computing, visualization and machine learning. The module "Modeling, Simulation and Optimization in Process Engineering" bridges the gap to process engineering. Here, all students are required to independently apply their programming skills to process engineering problems in a project.
In the focus areas, students must choose two out of four currently possible specializations in process engineering. The specializations are Bioprocess Engineering, Fluid Process Engineering, Particle Process Engineering and Thermodynamics.
Further specialization or a look beyond the horizon takes place via elective modules. Here you can choose from further modules from the focus areas in the subject-specific area and from the entire RPTU range in the general elective area.
The study course concludes with a Master's thesis lasting one semester.
